Parking vans at home

Hello, HELP
Ii was wondering if anyone knows the laws regarding parking vans at home, the house opposite us has 4 large vans which are parked on the drive at night, they are not on the highway, but as it is a newish development the houses are quite close, when we are sat in our living room all we can see is the front or the rear of the vans, the vans are all newish and are clean, i do not wish to fall out with the people opposite but i think they are breaking the law. I have dropped hints that i am not happy with the vehicles parking arrangements, but thay just smiled and walked away. i have started to park my car in front of my living room window, this has made life a little harder for them when the vans leave in the morning and return in the evening.
any advise would be of help.

You could try phoning the council and asking if the neighbours have planning permission to run a business involving multiple vehicels parking overnight at their home..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
The Council will only be interested if they are running a business from home. For example, they might each have jobs which provide a van and the council won't be interested in them being parked at home overnight.
There is no law against parking vehicles on the drive and to be honest, I really can't see how it could cause any offence

Try getting a life! It could be far worse if you decide to cause them problems. Any visit from the council now will be obvious it is from you since you have already mentioned it to them. I can understand if they were on your drive that you would complain. You are just typical of a lot of people today who have nothing in their lives other than to complain about others.0

Thanks for the replies so far, i feel this is effecting my quality of life, we are not killjoys, the person opposite should have a yard or unit to park the vehicles, the vans leave between 7.30am and 8am and the last returns about 8pm. i will contact the council as the house has an office/study similar to our house, i will also contact a local councilor to see if they can offer any advise.
any other help or advise will help me put a stop to this.0 -

The development may have a clause that states that Vans over a certain size are not permitted to be parked up over night.
I know when we were looking for a new house we asked the sales rep who said our Corsa Van wouldn't be a problem.... had to be far bigger for it to cause an issue.0 -
I would check the deeds to your house. Ours state (new build estate) that commercial vans, caravans and running a business is not allowed.
We have the same problem in a very small cul de sac. Ours is so bad that a guy at the top of the cul de sac was having a heart attack and the ambulance could not get through...they had to run and then stretcher the poor guy back through the street. We are in talks with our local council and are attending the parish coucil meetings and have had to provide photo/video evedence of the problems.
Another issue is that they are parked on the corner and you cannot see round.... I have almost crashed and almost hit a pedestrion more times than I want to remember and that is with crawling round...... nightmare!!0 -
The onle recourse you may have will be via any Restrictive Covenants in the property Deeds, however these clauses are normally put in place by the developers in order to prevent the estate having a detrimental appearance before they have sold all of the houses - this is why you often get clauses banning For Sale signs etc.
Often, the only way the clauses can be enforced is is the developers themselves wish them to be enforced. If they have sold all of the houses (or have given up due to the current market conditions), the restrictive covenants may literally not be worth the paper they are written on.
Worth a try, but quite often, you local authority won't give a damn.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
What size are the vans? If they are over 3.5t MGW(MAM) then they are subject to Operators Licensing and as such have to have a designated operating centre. But by the sounds of it they are just Transit sized vans which would be under the 3.5t limit, and as such as long as they are taxed and insured have as much right to be on the road as your own vehicle does. the fact that they park them off the road at night suggests that they are actually quite thoughtful to the neighbours and are not trying to block up the road.0
