Freezing wine

Options
Sounds silly I know, but my OH recieved a bottle of red wine as a gift for Christmas. We are not red wine drinkers soo I have opened it today to put a glug in a bolognaise, it seems a shame to waste it, so I thought about whether I could pour it into ice cube trays and freeze it, so I could use it in bolognaises and casseroles etc, but i'm not sure of it can be done, has anyone tried it before? If not i'll be the guinea pig (lol)

Thanks

Yep - do this regularly too, works no problems and adds a scrummy new dimension to lots of dishes. Enjoy. :D

I saw Nigella Lawson suggest it in plastic bags - a glass size amount, to use in recipes. If its good enough for Nigella........!!!

I freeze red wine with no problems. I use small tupperware pots as well as ice-cube trays. I wonder if it is okay to frantically suck on a wine ice-cube after a bad day at work?!

I put stocks and soups in a plasitc bag and freeze them inside a tupperware tub and when they are frozen they are in a convenient shape and I can reuse the tub.

That kind of depends on personal taste and on portion size. I would say 2 - 3 ice cubes or a generous 'glug' (small ish glass??) it's just to add a richness and depth of flavour, so there's no text book answer - at least, if there is, no one told me!!

    Hi
I've just been reading the threads for making a bolognese sauce, and I just wondered, can u freeze red wine?

I don't drink it, so i thought of buying a cheapy bottle just to add to spag bol or casseroles, but if you only need a glassful,I don't want to have to throw the rest away
  • put it into ice cube trays to freeze, then when you need some for cooking, just add a few cubes to the dish as required.

Me personally, i've never had any left to freeze.
