I think it should go without saying that you should be nice to ALL retail staff not just Woolies staff. As for the discounts, it isn't coming out of their wages. Any good member of staff will find a job very quickly, or be kept on by the buyers. It may even help some people, in a strange kind of way, who are stuck in a rut.

As for a Vulture. Yes I guess you could say that is me. Like when I bought cakes last night at Tesco, after they were discounted.

Disagree. There are lots of jobs out there. Okay some are being lost in the economic downturn but there are still many opportunities out there. If not go self employed. There is plenty of work out there.

  • I'm not gonna be nice to the Woolworths staff just because of Woolworths plight. For me it is standard to be nice to staff full stop. I don't think the earlier poster needed to say what they said as i'm sure 99.9% on here have common courtesy.

Don't get me wrong people losing their jobs is terrible and esp before Christma sbut I think you wil find allot of people on here in a similar boat.

Just back from our local and the discounts seem to be varying from store to store. The only 50% off in our local was for electrical gifts (hair straigteners and hairdryers and such like). More or less everything else was just 20% off. However we did get some good bargains (stuff that we needed and i've been holding out for - new quilt and sheets for just over a tenner, a new toilet seat (don't ask !), couple of games for the kids for xmas and a few other bits).

Would also like to reiterate what others have said before ......... PLEASE be nice to the staff ! Made a point of saying to the assistant who served us that we hope everything turns out ok for them and they don't get too much grief today !

    Have fun everyone !

Ooooh i need a new toilet seat too.....

Can you be a self-employed till operator?

It is a depressing time for many and while not wishing to be overly pessimistic I don't think everyone that is good at what they do will be able to walk into another job immediately. Losing your job is a big blow to anyone and as I said in a previous post I really do hope someone manages some sort of rescue to keep these shops going in some form or other

I can't believe some people on here were expecting EVERYTHING to be offered at half-price!
  • My friend works in M&S and she was telling me last night about the amount of abuse they took yesterday because items were out of stock because of the 20% day. It's pathetic. If you are desperate for a bargain - get up early. If you get there and there's no stock, it's really not the staff's fault, you should have got out of your pit early enough!
As for Woolworths staff - it's a shame they are in the firing line this time. However, it's how it goes. When people who are banking with HSBC and HBOS go into the banks, do they give them their good wishes for their job safety? My husband has been made redundant TWICE around this time of year. The first time was 4 months before we got married 9 years ago, the 2nd was Christmas Eve 2000, 2 weeks after the birth of our first child.
It happens. It's not going to stop anyone (least of all the staff!!!) getting a bargain or 2.
  • Hubby has just phoned me from the Woolies store in Oldham...

No discount at all on consoles, DVD'S, games....Not even the 10%.

    Consoles had all sold out.

Bit of a wet lettuce really...Not the hubby, the 'fantastic reductions'......lol
    !!73lb lost!!

I think calling bargain hunters VULTURES is very insulting!! We are all on this site for the same reason and believe me if this was Boots and people were saying tomorrow I have heard their is going to be 50% off we would all be the same in that thread as we would be in thread. It is a bargain we are all after whether it be Woolies or boots.

I think it is fair to say that most of us love woolies maybe not even because of what it sells but because it has been around for the time that we all have and has been apart of our lives at some point.

You really need to word that differently as I said above we are all here looking for a bargain and thats that!!!

Also many people are in the same situation as Woolies staff as they are losing jobs left right and centre and not sure if they are going to get the next pay packet so believe me these people can do with as many bargains as they can find!!!

    Rant over!!!
