Thats all I do, melt choc, break up the shredded wheat and mix together, then add it to a cake case and flatten down the middle so the eggs will sit nice.

I think this year instead of spending a fortune on easter eggs, I'm going to make easter shakes- milkshake and marshmallows, choc nests, and a personalise choc slab. Will save my tea bag boxes and cover them in yellow tissue paper, will shread some tissue paper to line and add my bits, with a few mini eggs and a little chick. I'm sure all 14 of my niece and nephews will like them!!

I'm going for an Easter 'fun box' for my friends brothers and sisters - going to do bunny poop, easter milkshakes with paper cups, creme eggs (currently £1.22 for 6 in Co-op) with a dvd (£1.50 in Woolies), happy easter banner (12p in tesco), colouring sheets and felt tips. Cant wait to get going!!!

If you have a factory shop near you, you might be able to get something like that from them - 20 for £1 normally!

I've started planning for my DS1's birthday at the end of March. He's going to have a Star Wars party and I have been looking for good party bag ideas that aren't tat and don't cost the earth. I am thinking of doing milkshake powder in a cello cone with marshmallows (the multi-coloured ones) and a straw and call it 'Sith Shake' or 'Vader Shaker' (named after Star Wars characters!). What do you think?

Also going to have a go at making personalised wrappers for small chocolate bars.

Am I mad to make all this extra work for myself??? Don't answer that one!

    hi

does anybody know where i can get the pattern for the knitted easter chicks on the first page. they are just what i were given as a child but threw them away (ungrateful i know) and wanted to make them for my kids.

    cheers

Hi Spatel, I'm sorry I can't help with the knitted chick pattern, it was from the web but I just can't seem to find it at the mo. I see the ladies have given you some links for others. Incase anyone was wondering
The bunny pattern is crochet and was from here http://www.marloscrochetcorner.com/Bunny%20Easter%20Egg.html
and the duck/chick was more loosely based from here

Sorry I can't be anymore help, I have a tendancy to make things up as I go along sometimes and not write things down.
One thing I would say though is to just make sure it fits our/UK eggs as I did find that a lot I tried came up bigger and I had to readjust. I just used a normal medium chicken egg for fit as I didn't have the creme eggs here at the time.
  • I normally make choc / caramel rice crispy cakes and decorate them with mini eggs, I brought some cello bags couple of years ago, once tied with a pretty ribbon, they look pretty good, but I think i'm going to make shortbread Easter bunnies this year, and use my final few bags.

I love the daff bulbs idea too, so might pinch that too, thanks sophiesmom!

Thinking I might give this a go, as a present from DD for her auntie's and grandparents.
Wonder if she'd let me face paint her first and add some bunny ears???

Having a clear out and got two wooden egg cups -plain wood with a ring round that you can't take off however you try. So, think they might do for my teenage grandchildren..................just need an egg to go in them thats not too colourful and might do a flannel bunny as well

Also got Noddy and Big Ears egg cups..........my kids used to have them when they were little. They got chucked out somewhere over the years but I found these in a junk shop...........just need a felt hat making for them and my boys will be over the moon. Trouble is, I can't remember which of them had which egg cup and don't want to ask as it'll spoil the surprise. Descreet word in the girlfriends ear I think.

I don't have a link or photos of this, but when I was little, I bought some material, fashioned my own template of an egg and cut out 2 per egg. One I cut in half with a zig-zag. The bottom part I sewed on around the edge, leaving the break in the egg as an opening and attached just the tip of the top half of the cracked egg. I decorated the eggs with ribbons and flowers. To go inside I made a template of a rabbit which I cut out of felt and sewed on eyes, whiskers and a mouth. Sorry I've not explained it very well, but hopefully it gives you the idea.

Also for children, how about shredded wheat nests? You break up shreaded wheat, mix through melted chocolate and set in nest shapes. When set, fill with mini eggs - presto! One super easy pressie
