This is meant as a joke so don't take seriously.:(

It's not a joke, it's the truth. If you don't pay up you get sent some more letters.

Yes we know but it's starting the sentence 'pay up' that causes a bit of alarm here!
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Well, if people can't be bothered reading more than the first two words of a posting then there is very little hope for mankind.

  • Coincidently, my husband and I both received a private parking ticket within a week of each other before christmas.

Mine, in retail park, where you are allowed 2 hours free. I returned after 2 hours 45 mins. I had a £95 fine in the post. They also have the incorrect spelling of my name.
I have ignored the initial letter and so far have not had a second.

My husband was driving through the night from Ireland and had to pull over to sleep (adhering to the police ' Tiredness kills, take a break' campaign!) from about 4am for a 5 hour sleep and he received a £50 fine, which we ignored. We have had a second letter saying that because we did not reply to the first two letters (we didn't receive letter no.2) the deadline for appeal is now up, the fine is now £120, and time for appeal closed. We have 7 days to pay or we face legal action.

My husband is getting twitchy about these and stressing that we'll end up in court with huge fees, but I'm feeling more militant and am prepared to see it through as it is ridiculously exhoribitant.
But I really don't want to make any mistakes.

According to Martin the next step is to reply with his template letter, but I have since read advice to simply not reply ever.

    Which should I do?

    Any advice gratefully received!

You just ignore, it's as simple as that.

Please don't call these demands for money "fines". They are not. To give them that name gives them the legitimately the. don't deserve.

  • I've just this morning 14/01/2011 received a "Reminder Notice" - "Parking Charge Notice Outstanding", with photographic evidence and a payment slip.

The contravention states my vehicle was seen not displaying a valid disabled badge on a local retail park 10/11/2010, although it's a few months ago as I recall, I was there at the time, 'Asda to be precise'. I am disabled and was parked in a disabled bay, I always display my badge when required but on this occasion I cant recall if I overlooked it, my then 17 year old daughter was with me, on crutches and we both desparately needed the toilet facilities.

My main bewilderment is both myself and my daughter never saw a parking ticket on my vehicle and to this day have never seen one, so the corresponence I received this morning has, to me, come completely out of the blue.

Printed on the "Reminder Notice" as I said is photographic evidence showing what seems to be an orangie/yellow ticket in the corner of my windscreen, tucked just under the edge of my windscreen wiper blade on the passenger side. So out of curiosity this morning I placed a piece of paper in the same positon as the picture portrays and found from inside my car it would have been totally obscured by my tax disc, this may explain why neither of us saw it, added to that, imediately on leaving the retail park I joined the motorway so I now wonder if the ticket became detached and this is why it has never been seen.

It seems unfair, the fact that I am genuinely disabled, was parked in the correct manner, in a disabled bay and my daughter was on crutches at the time, my main concern was her need for the loo. I can't catagorically say I did display my disabled badge "obviously not" but due to our circumstance I feel it's a bit harsh and now worrying to get this letter of outstanding charge especially when I dont have a ticket to confirm it.

On reading the advice you've provided I'm still not sure how to deal the matter, it states the amount due is £80 or £130 if not payed in 7 days. I dont have it.

There is no confusion over our advice, which is to ignore these stupid demands. It's as simple as that. For further reassurance pleas read all the other threads on here that deal with private parking issues.

Dont panic you have nothing to worry about. The blue badge is not a problem, it has no relevance in a private car park. You are disabled you parked in a disabled bay. Ignore the letter don't contact them you may receive more letters then they will just go away and try and intimidate someone else.

Don't fall for their intimidation just ignore them and relax.

All of your details wrt blue badge, date, loc'n etc are all meaningless and make no difference.

Private = ignore, ignore, ignore some more.

Yes really, just ignore everything and they will go away.

FWIW MSE Martin's advice is very widely held to be wrong and merely encourages the muppets to keep writing; you'll actually struggle to find anyone anywhere who agrees with it. [I actually believe that MSE M doesn't even believe in the advice but has to be seen to be 'fair'].

  • Hi guys. I was a victim of private parking 'crime' last year - having had to pay 278 £ for release after my car had been towed away from a car park in Tennant street, Bimingham. I had actually displayed a ticket but from the wrong machine! It so happened that the only visible pay and display machine was that of the council (I realised only later that the private machine was at a corner of the fairly derelict car park) and on returning an hour later after a meal, was shocked beyond belief. I wrote to the company -Car Clamping Securities (CCS) based in London-to protest, on the lines recommended on this site- and they said they could do nothing- as expected. I am now planning to file a claim online (moneyclaimonline) - but it is a year since the event occurred (22 Jan) and the reply I received from CCS was in Feb 2010 . My questions are twofold-
    1) Is there a time limit for the claim to be made - will a year be considered too long
    2) Is it right to ask for interest to be paid- considering I hadn't filed the claim earlier

    would really appreciate some help
