Because they cook the vege stuff on the same grills and cooking plates as they cook the meat!

They also do this in many pubs and other restaurants.

The restaurant I used to work in certainly did!!

A "serious" vegetarian wouldn't set foot in that sort of establishment, and should certainly avoid all grilled and fried options from most menus in pubs!

I've never heard such nonsense in my life!

I have many friends who are vegetarian and they do not spend their time finding out which restaurants are vege specific or not. Further, if there's a group of us, they're not going to be the one to say "sorry, but as I'm vegetarian do you mind if we go ....".

If that's how you live fair enough, but don't chastise other people because they don't go to the 'serious vegetarian' restaurants!

But surely a lot of this depends on the reason why you're vegetarian? I mean, some people might choose to be vegetarian because they don't like the taste, or they do not want to contribute to animals being killed...in which case they won't have a problem with their food being cooked alongside meat products. For the more 'hardcore' vegetarians who are physically repulsed by the idea of meat, it might be more of an issue...!
I'm 100% carnivore btw (or should I say omnivore...?)

This thread is hilarious. Well done to the OP for what is blatantly a wind up.

    :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
  • This is ridiculous.
    The OP is a vegetarian.
She went to a restaurant that has vegetarian options. Should she not eat anywhere where they serve meat? Should there be separate restaurants where only vegetarians should eat?

It's ludicrous to suggest that you check everything you are served. The meat/veggie stuff would have been inside, I'm sure many people don't examine their food before eating it.

I can completely understand why the OP was so upset by this. My mum is a vegetarian (for over 30 years) and if that happened to her she would not have been able to stay there. It is quite reasonable for a vegetarian to be horrified by eating meat.

However, I do think it was an honest mistake and they did apologise for it. I would write a letter of complaint setting out the situation and see if you get anything back for it. If not just give it up and do not go there again.

The OP came here because she was upset about the service she was offered. She didn't come on saying she wanted to sue them for millions of pounds, just that she was upset and didn't want anyone else to suffer the experience. I can't understand why people feel the need to offer such unhelpful judgement/comments.

    Storyline:

Op Realises a friend is coming, starts thinking about where to dine tonight.
    Friend gets of the train.
AHA the op thought of Nandos.

He walked with his mate, and ordered some food. Like any other mates they try to catch up on things and are totaly distracted from the whole world.

The food comes, OP takes a bit of his so called "veggie" option. He is feeling sick, He ate frikin meat! He complained the manager. The manager said "sorry" the op then got some garlic bread and some fries for the friend.

The op sat there on the chair huddled up thinking about what PETA will say to him at the next meeting.

    Trumor over they go home.

So it is both your faults. The op is to blame and so is nandos. I know for a fact if i was busy chattin i would most probably stick a napkin in my mouth :rotfl:( I have done it before LMAO)

You got free food, and showed the manger you accepted that as compensation.

If you want to complain to the main HQ summaries the complaint. you dont have to tell them everything. They will most probably ask for more info if they need it!

    Good luck!

Sorry, but chalk it down to experience and move on. I have been in Nandos (contrary to popular belief us veggies have non-veggie friends and family which we occationally like to socialise with) but i didnt eat anything as i dont think even the utensils were vegetarian friendly. And yes, i am a "serious" vegetarian (no meat, no seafood, no bi-products)

I was intrigued by this comment - how were the utensils not vegetarian friendly? Do you mean they weren't cleaned properly? Or do you mean the ones they were cooking with were used for both veggie and meat dishes? Curous because both my son and daughter are veggies and I'm strict on not "cross-contaminating"!
