Nandos

I am currently SO annoyed at Nandos & although I've sent them a complaint I am even more annoyed because there was an 850 character limit!

On Saturday, we had a friend come visit us. We hadnt seen her for a year & thought it would be nice to go somewhere for a bite to eat. We settled on Nandos just because we thought it was reasonably priced.

As a Vegetarian, I ordered the veggie pitta & the lady at the till seemed to understand that when she repeated my order.
I was served a steak roll, didnt really think much about it as I was busy chatting to my friend. Took a bite out of it to find I had most definitely eaten meat! I felt sick but tried to remain calm as I didnt want to show myself up in front of a crowded restaurant & my friend.

The manager apologised profusely & then offered me more food...as if i wanted more food, I felt nauseous! But I asked for some garlic bread & more chips for my friend & partner.
I was then served my veggie pitta sitting lonely on the plate. My corn on the cob & ratatouille had mysteriously disappeared with the steak roll! No one double checked I was ok, I felt like they ruined my evening. I walked out as soon as my friend & partner had finished & burst into tears.

I want to do something just to make sure their chefs & waiters are more vigilant about what they serve especially to their vegetarian customers. I'm horrified & don't want anyone else to suffer from my experience.

Any ideas?

I can understand why you would be upset but from what you have said it does seem like a genuine mistake which they tried to deal with by apologising and offering you more food- personally I would put it down to experience but if you want to make a point why not go back to the Nandos you went to and speak to the manager again and explain how you feel and ask him to ask his staff to be more vigilant in the future

I'm sure a veggie pitta looks very different from a steak roll, you need to take responsibilty as to what you put in your mouth. Now if the server or manager had force fed you that's a different story.

Sounds like a genuine mistake to me, and you did say they apologised.

Why on earth a vegetarian would choose a chicken restaurant to eat in is beyond me!!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I agree, a genuine mistake. These things happen. Unless the OP thinks Nandos have a policy of upsetting vegetarian customers? Some mistakes have dire consequences; fortunately this one didn't. It is unfortunate for the OP, though. However, she got an apology and an offer of additional food. Sounds like good customer service.

Should a vegetarian only eat in vegetarian restaurants?

No, but they should choose a "restaurant" that's not a MEAT MEAT MEAT one! (So basically anything except KFC, Burger King, Maccy D's and Nandos!).

I was veggie for many years, and certainly wouldn't set food in that type of food place!

I really like the bean pitta from nandos even though I am not a vegetarian.... Why should a vegetarian avoid nandos?!

    Nuns! Nuns! Reverse!

'I do my job, do you do yours?'

  • I wont go near them, their customer service leaves a lot to be desired.

Im alergic to chillies and check any menu carefully before ordering. Thought I was safe when I ordered a beefburger and in it there was chillies, thankfully i had antihistimines on me and didnt have as sever a reaction as i could have but it still ment a trip to the emergency room. The manager basically said why are you in a mexican restaurant when your allergic to chillies!!!

definetly avoid them!! complain to head office, i got £50 quid worth of vouchers for my next visit that i ended up giving away to family.

So you are incapable of writing a letter are you? (with unlimited characters if so desired).

Totally disagree with you there. There are bloody expensive for what you get.

So you are taking no responsibility for what you put in your mouth? I always check my food before eating - and my husband practically puts it under a microscope!

Unfortunately they got your order wrong, apologised and offered to rectify the roblem. You accepted more food and still aren't happy? I take it you calmly pointed out that the corn and ratatouille were missing, thus giving them the chance to provide them or offer a refund?

Are you serious? No one double checked you were OK????? Why, had you experienced some sort of medical emergency that we are unaware of? And did you really make a total show of yourself by bursting into tears? How embarassing!

Honestly, you really need to lighten up. Quite frankly I am horrified that you are horrifed. Yes Nando's screwed up but as far as I can tell they did what they could to rectify the situation for you.

Take my advice - give Nandos a miss in future. In fact, as you are such a sensitive soul I suggest you never eat out ever again.
