I found some work on my transcription system last night - well actually I stopped work at 5 pmp and it seems that nobody went on after me - so I was typing from 10 - 2 a.m.. So I am going back to bed. I will check in later......But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green0

Morning all,
Well going to make shepherd's pie tonight for dinner, just got to buy some potatoes as I've got the mince in the freezer (about to take it out). Meeting a friend today for lunch, just looked out the window though and I'm hoping it's going to melt a lot more in the next hour before I have to leave!
Made some Twink's last night, only baked up one tray though as I just fancied a biscuit last night, the rest of the mixture is in the fridge to cook up later when the shepherd's pie has been in so the ovens on.
Flat is disgusting but can't be bothered today, will put DW and WM on before I go though. Applied for loads of jobs yesterday and going to hand out some CVs in town today so fingers crossed, should have done this before now really...oh well! Would ideally like to make a little cash for christmas but not sure any pay will go in before then now. We'll manage it but we have to buy a tree this year too. Last year we pulled four, yes four, christmas trees out of the cellar, all second hand, all given by various relatives and friends etc, all really raggy and looking very sorry for themselves. We chose the least worst to put up last year (handy really as we had a kitten then, hope she's not as mental with the tree this year!) and we threw them all away after christmas. Now no tree, meant to buy one in Jan but I'm just not that organised, lol.
*huggles* to all who need/want them. Keep warm and safe in the cold x0 -
Today I've got a choccy Christmas tree :santa2:

Morning all,
I got all my kitchen chores done this morning. DGS came after lunch and we've just been playing upstairs most of the afternoon. We went down around 4.30pm when it was cooler to some gardening chores. DH doesn't have to work tomorrow. The room under the house is coming along well. I'm making my Aberdeen sausages for Christmas. Will freeze them.
Got a phone call this arv to ask if I'd have the Island Mass at my place tomorrow morning. Not many usually come, about 7. My last count was about 15. Luckily I baked yesterday. Storm here atm, I can see lightening from the window. Bit of rain and some thunder.
Moiliere She will be in our prayers. What a sad time for you all.
Ruby Here is the recipe you requested.
Taplady Very nice & festive.
Bread & Butter Cucumber
5 medium cucumbers, sliced thinly ( I've used white & green)
350g onions, sliced very thinly
green capsicum sliced thinly (as much as you like) chilli (I don't)
50g salt
350ml cider or white vinegar
350g sugar
2 level tbsp mustard seeds
2 level tbsp celery seeds (I've never found these so don't bother)
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Slice cucumber, onions, capsicums and place in bowl. Add salt and stand for 3 hours. (I put sliced veg in bowl, then add a bit of salt, more veg, more salt etc)
Drain & rinse under tap and drain thoroughly.
Bring remaining ingred to boil and then add vegetables. Reduce heat and cook for 2 mins. (usually 5 for me). Pour hot into sterilized jars, making sure the liquid covers the cucumbers and seal.
I put jars in slow oven for 1/2 hour. Usually makes 2 big jars.
I usually have leftover liquid. I put it in a jar in the fridge and use it over a tossed salad. Waste not, want not.
Hope you all have a lovely day. <hugs> to those poorly. ByeeeeeeeeeeeeeeDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Morning everyone. Another cold one here today, -3 when I went out the door. Started out early getting the weekly repo instructions done, came into the office to find the heating had been left on full all night, sweltering right now.
Tru- not a job I envy, especially with three cats.
Mioliere - sorry to hear your news, it puts everything else into perspective.0 -
Morning all!
Kathy - thinking of your cousin's family and his little one is in my prayers. Is she the little girl you were collecting small bits for not so long ago?
Beth - glad the recovery is going well. Veg pies always go down well and are fairly versatile, other than that how about quorn fillets or vege mince if you want meals that everyone can eat and are quick and simple?
Taplady - good luck to your ds with the job.
Hugs to Leslie and Tristan x
Pippa - not sure exactly what has happened as I haven't read back and caught up yet, but I hope that things are sorted out quickly.
Well os wise I have swished and swiped the kitchen and hoovered the house. I've tidied my bedroom and got out a pile of recipe books so I can try some new things out.
My Approved Foods order has just arrived, how exciting! Great service, I'm very impressed, few bits weren't available, but then I guess that's to be expected. Don't think I'll be running out of kidney beans any time soon, poor delivery driver struggled with the boxes!
Was planning to go out and get a couple of last bits for friends, but have decided to do an online hunt instead, okay, really it's cos it's cold out! Not much else planned for today, need to make the burgers for tonights dinner for the kids, burgers in pittas and potato wedges and salad.
Have a good day all, hugs to anyone in need or who just feels like one! xxGC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Beth, I'm a vegetarian and so is my little (bah, little, she's almost 21!) sister. It's really easy to feed us! You will find there is a vegetarian freezer in most supermarkets containing nut cutlets annd quorn/realeat mince and quorn pieces etc. You can pretty much make most meals with a substitute, just remember to make sure gravy/stock/cheese etc is veggie (there are a large range of things now which are, Asda is normally better than Tesco for their labelling). Last year the OH made me these lovely parcel thingies, cheese and cranberry (he's the real chef in our house, just so busy atm) and they were gorgeous. If you have a 'cold meat' kind of meal with salads etc then you can buy quorn slices of sandwich 'meat' which are generally quite nice (even comes in turkey and stuffing flavour for that festive touch). If you want any more help with it PM me and I'd be more than happy to discuss recipe ideas. It's hard sometimes as I've been doing it for three years now and so it's just seond nature. OH isn't a veggie but mostly eats veggie at home as it makes things easier! Another good one is jacket pots with cheese and beans
Hope that helps x

I am feeling extremely sorry for myself. My head hurts, my chest hurts, my joints ache and I am the third person in the house to get this. Sigh. There's only evil cat to get it now.
Redruby - I would love to have a bird table here so that little bear could watch the birds. However four outside cats live next door and I saw two dead rats in the street last week (better than live ones:rolleyes:) so I am not currently in any way encouraging birds.
Pippa - I am so sorry you have this, I hope it gets sorted out soon.
Feeling very proud in that yesterday I made a HUGE pot of stew which fed us last night, will feed us again tonight (with an added tin of tomatoes) and there will still be a generous portion for the freezer. Wholemeal bread in the bread maker - not so sure about it. A bit over moist and very dark, but actually very toothsome.
Need to get evil cat to the vet for a check up. I always have a great deal of sympathy for the vet.
I am nowhere near ready to get decorations up. We do have a fibre optic tree that little bear chose - honestly. He was just about 11 months old and we went to the garden centre with all the lights and he was very clear about which one he liked. So, that was the one we got. I'm not really a Christmassy person. Unfortunately when I was a child, Christmas was an awful time. Dear heart lost loved ones near Christmas and his late mother's birthday was at the very start of January.
Here is a puzzle. I am currently wearing a hand knitted sweater. It is one I knitted, and it is elderly. I have found a hole in it and do not have any of the wool left (or I probably do - somewhere safe:rolleyes:). So, I cannot mend it and I do not want to donate it in this condition. I also suspect that 'rescued' wool would not go well in a charity shop. Normally I would unravel and stuff a cushion with it, as cushions stuffed with unravelled wool are lovely. However, in six months time I hope to start moving house, so the fewer 'things' around the better. I think I am going to have to throw it out, but I hate the waste. Any suggestions? It is far from my favourite sweater, but the thought of it being just thrown is so irritating.
Well, from my pit of self pity - hugs to all!Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
