Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 3nd December. It is is an ‘over the garden fence’ type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone is welcome; please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start does just as well.
Morning, As usual it does not matter what time I go to bed, I still wake up the same time. Stayed up with the OH to watch pride and predujice till 11.30. It was a bit silly really as we have it on DVD, but somehow because it's on TV you want to watch it.
Work soon and then I might go late night shopping. Despite my thoughts of getting everything in early, we have not done that. I did find a lot of potential gifts in the attic with the Christmas stuff. Things we brought back from the USA last year and never gave anyone.... So who gets an old present?
Had a nice curry last night, home made, but have no idea what's on the menu for tonight.
Well, have a nice day...

O little town of Bethlehem
How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight
Today I've got a choccy Christmas tree :santa2:
I'm going to FIL's this morning, home by 2pm for lunch then a quick tidy up. I'll do some physio with Bubble Rabbit - she's almost back to normal :j then jump in the shower. Mr troo has invited people round for chilli  I'm not looking forward to it TBH because I just can't be bothered with anything by about 7pm, I just want to sit and read and ignore people by then
FIL leaves the cat litter tray for me to sort out - he has 3 cats and I only visit once a week, by the time I get there it's disgusting. I've even put extra clean-and-complete-with-cat-litter trays in the cupboard so he can swap them, I told him to just put the used trays outside the back door and I'll sort them out, but he won't. He says he can't bend down (he does have problems) but he manages to fill the food and water bowls. He could slide the tray across the floor and out of the door but he won't do that either. He shouldn't have the cats IMO and I'm tempted to get mr troo and his 2 brothers to go round together and persuade him to rehome the cats.
I had one condition when I started cleaning for him - I don't touch the litter tray. I didn't even sort it out with our own cat, mr troo did it - it makes me heave _pale_

Morning N9eav, Tru and all to follow,
Another cold one here this morning, off to work today and I only have 9 days left before I break for Xmas :T .
Meatballs with pasta for tea, dd made them yesterday, so only have to cook them and the pasta tonight. OH has hm soup for lunch, with ginger cake.
I will take the leftover cottage pie from last night and have it at work.
Rubbish and recycling are out, will have a tidy through this morning, and put a wash on tonight.
DD's review at school went well, and she is achieving excellent results, which is great :T Sainsbugs are delivering tonight as well.
Please remember to put some water ( and food ) out for the birds, they cant get any in this frosty weather.
Hope all is well, have good days all xx
Edited to add, Aussie, can you give me the recipe for Bread & Butter pickles please, I did do a search, but got loads of bread recipes up x0 -
Morning peeps
this is a far more sensible time to be posting todayi keep on telling myself only 2 more shifts to go and then some days off but i shall probably be up even earlier then  i just can`y wait for the opportunity to sort the house out as it always seems to get in such a mess so quickly when i have a long stint of long shifts as i`m too tired to do much.
I`ve been looking at my meal planner and we are supposed to be having spanish omelette and spicy wedges for tea tonight but i still have some jacket potatoes in the fridge that are already cooked and wrapped in foil so maybe we shall have something else with those instead later, i shall have to juggle some days around methinks.
I`m not sure what to do for a Christmas tree this year, we had the most beautiful tree at the last house with lovely lights and i never expected to ever have to buy another one but when we moved house the tree had to be stored in the garage and mice ate everythingwe bought el cheapo fibre optic tree as we were mega skint but it`s just not the same as a nice tree with proper decorations on it.
I wonder if we should have a real tree this year and just buy a set of lights as we have lots of nice decs but i wouldn`t really know where to start with one as we`ve never had a real tree in the house. Do they make a lot of mess? are they expensive? would one stand up to 2 dogs and a cat? the monster cat usually does a big run and dives headfirst into the tree and after a while it`s possible to spot a pair of eyes peeping from between the branches :rotfl: Sooooooo if anyone has any advice it would be well appreciated please.
On that note i`d better go and do some w*rk before i get to wrapped up in tree thoughts and get into a pickle
Pippa - I`m so sorry to hear of your situation, it`s an awful thing to happen and i do know several people who have had the same happen to them, the names of four come straight to mind and i gather that it`s an increasingly common situation, i really hope that it is resolved swiftly as i know that all the others were. Hope that this reassures you in some way.
Have a good day peeps.

Edited to add Belated Birthday wished to Mr Redruby for yesterday, hope it was a good dayPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Good Morning All
Troo that is not a nice job - i think you are right - he definately shouldnt have 3 cats.
OH is back to work for the moment and its meant I have started getting up earlier at my normal time and I do feel much better for it. Its also lovely having the house to myself for a while.
Woke up still full of cold and I think DD will be off again today. DS will go to school but he will have to be careful its very icy out there.
Need to do some online banking and bits this morning, will get that done then will be in the kitchen most of the day.Have some cheap lamb shanks from tesco and will be making stew today for my lunches. Also will be making red onion marmalade and do some baking too. Probably choc chip cookes. Was meant to be gammon for dinner tonight but forgot to get it out of the freezer so need to have a look for something else and will get the gammon out for tomorrow.
Looking forward to a day in the kitchen - havnt done that for ages.
Have a great day.

(Oh and my new remoska came yesterday so need to try that out and make sure it works - bacon sandwiches for breakfast should do it)0 -
Oh my goodnesss Tru - you just reminded me that no one in this house has an advent calender yet - did I ever mention that I don't really "do" christmas. Will get some today.
been missing in beggared up computerland again so if this stops mid sentence you'll know why. Day off today which I shall spend doing the sort of jobs that I can't bear to do at the weekend like behind the oven and bringing down curtains - oh the excitementI'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080 -
Just a quickie - Tru - is your FIL able to have a catflap fitted so that the cats can come and go? That way the litter may not get used as much once they get used to going out.
Apologies if he lives in a flat or unsuitable place.

He says the road is too busy (not true), he's always had cats and used to let them out so I don't know why he changed his mind
They're not Burmese or any other type that have to be kept indoors, in fact 2 of them came from us when our cat had kittens 14 years ago - standard moggiesHe looked after them properly then........

He won't do that either - he NEVER lets the cats out  So you can imagine the state of the tray

 Aw poor things, if he has the choice of catflap or rehoming then he may see sense.
Good luck - it sounds like you are definitely going to need it.

Morning all,
Tru - I do like your little Christmas Carol - makes me feel all festive each dayAnd I agree with you on the litter tray thing, it makes me heave too... urgh...... Doesn't sound like he is able to manage the cats at all anymore. Maybe a conversation about having to have them rehomed might make him reconsider his ability to swop a dirty tray for a prepared clean one? (It sounds like he is able, if he can do the food dishes, but sorry if he isn't & I am presuming!)
Redruby, you've made me think I might do meatballs & pasta for supper too & well done to your DD on her good results
Sunnyday, I'm probably going to get a real tree this year (just a small one) that is potted with its roots, so I can put it in the garden afterwards. As I've now got laminate floor in the lounge & a space next to the french doors it will be much easier to manage all the needles falling off. Mind you, not sure what my 2 cats will make of it....
EssexGirl, red onion marmalade... mmmmmmmm....... some of that with chunks of cheddar, some home-cooked ham & hot fresh crusty bread..... (i'm not dribbling really!!)
PippaS, what a horrible shock to find when you checked your bank - and a real pain to sort out at this time of yearHope you get it sorted out fairly quickly & painlessly.
At a training course all day today, so lunch will be providedAnd as noted earlier, meatballs for supper which I will pick up on the way home. Will probably feed my mum too as I need to get her to take/collect youngest DD from her tap class, so we can all just eat afterwards.
Ordered a few xmas presents online last night, I like the fact with Boots you can collect from a store (means my DD's won't be demanding to know what the box is if the postman turned up with it!). I feel quite under control at the moment. I'm sure that won't last!!!!!!
((((((((hugs))))))) for all those needing them, and those who are MIA, we miss you.Live your life until love is found, or love's gonna get you down" (credit to Mika!)0 -
Morning everyone
Not posted for a while, but have been around, honest!
Cold isn't it? Snow still outside, my mum always used to say it's hanging round for more.
Having disguised a couple of presents as christmas trees at the weekend I am now trying to figure out how to make a snowman to put DSD's pressies in

Am working full time this week so SC is working overtime. DW just finished and WM about to go on. Taking spicy butternut squash soup to work for my lunch, must make some more soup tonight as that is the last portion. Potato and leek I think.
Need to go and tidy kitchen now as plumber is coming in while I'm at work to fix the hot water, he mended it so that we have hot water now, but the pressure has gone and it only trickles out of the tap.
Hugs for those in need.
