Just a little warning about the Caxton Fx currency cards.... My husband got a Caxton Fx card for his holiday to las vegas after doing a lot of research on all these types of cards... However the nightmare happened and his wallet was stolen within a few hours of him being in Las Vegas. However when he phone to cancel his card and request a new one to be issued to him in Las Vegas Caxton were very helpful to cancel his card to protect his money, but as his wallet was stolen on a Friday night they could not deal with replacing his card or getting emergency money to him until 9am on the following Monday morning......

As such I had to arrange another way of getting money to him. I know I should be grateful that his money on the card was protected, however Caxtons's website and information documents to do not clearly state that they can only offer their emergency replacement card during Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm British time.
I think it is important that all Caxton customers are made aware of this....Luckily I was in a position back in Britain to be able to wire money to my husband so his holiday was not wasted. However we are both really disappointed that the card that was meant to offer him more security and support has let him down so badly in a horrible situation.:(:(:(

Just wondering how that fits in to pre-paid card discussions

Well instead of getting a preloaded debit card, it may be worth looking into getting an account, with a debit card and having full banking facilities, and getting a visa debit that way

I bought a Cashplus for online and cashback more than anything.
However Im now desperate to get mobile broadband and couldn't even purchase a pre pay dongle online or over the phone. Apparently Cashplus Mastercard is not accepted by uk mobile phone companies as its not uk based?

Is there a pre pay(visa or maestro) card that IS accepted by any of the mobile companies (ideally online so I can claim my cashback!)?

I can't even top up online with t-mobile using Cashplus Mastercard. is the prepay visa card more likely to be accepted?
  • Has anyone experienced any problems with o2 prepaid card I had one of these and loaded the card with money for a weekend away. When I went to draw the money out the card was retained. After having to borrow money to get me through the weekend as the accounts department at o2 wasn't open on a weekend, I spoke to someone who informed me that the account had been closed the day after I had put money on it. When I enquired further I was told the criteria had changed and they did not have to tell me why the card had been withdrawn I pointed out that the card had my money on it and should not have been closed without notice and I was told that they can do this. I was told a cheque would be sent to me two weeks later since I put the money on the card I still can't access my money and today I have contacted them to be told that a cheque can take a while and i would need to speak to someone in the day. Am I wrong here but the money they have is mine so why has the happened, I can't seem to get a straight answer, in addition to putting me in a financially embarrassed situation.

    Hello all!

I'm trying to book a holiday and the campsites only accept credit cards, not debit cards. Would I be able to book it with one of these?

    Cheers,

    Hi,

Just curious to know what the end outcome was with your O2 prepaid card issue ... I don't have one myself but was just browsing the forums and can't believe how unfair that seems. They wait till the day AFTER you've loaded £200 on there to decide to tell you that you don't meet their new criteria ... and then don't give you YOUR OWN money back?!? ... I'd have been calling every call centre number I could find and yelling and screaming down the phone ... in real life I'm not a particularly irate person but when dealing with companies that I feel have screwed me over because they think they're bigger than me I do have a tendency to lose it a bit and my more assertive side puts in an appearance!
