Well to answer my own question, the bulb has just gone. So 5 weeks use for £1

I wouldn't mind so much but it is a hassle to fit another one

spend a few quid on a set of ring headlight bulbs, they will last years.

How'd you get one? Do you have to be a business?

no not really, theres a thread on here about the trade card. you could judt go in blagging it and say you work for a garage, but they may ask for proof of this in form of a payslip,i gave them my payslip it didnt even have my company name on it and they accepted it. i think they will also accept some recent motor factors invoices or receipts aswell.
just search this forum for halfords trade card. ;)

Well I went back into Poundland (not for a new bulb) but I happened to see that they now have them at 2 for £1, supposedly 30% brighter

As a moneysaver, do you think I should take the old bulb back as "not of merchantable quality" as it only lasted 5 weeks?!

If people are after truely bright lights then xenon bulbs are the one to get. I have the brightest 50/55w version available in 6000k colour for £50 delivered from ebay. The brightness is excellent at night.

Please note that most car's original headlight unit cannot direct the beam of xenon light unless you have got angel eyes projector or units which has metal wrap around the bulb. Also you probably need to let your insurance company knows as it's classed as modification.

Isn't it illegal to use Xenon lights without autoleveling and wash?

I wonder if any of those in the autoexpress test would help my motorbike light the road, it's like having a tealight in the headlight at this time of year.

no its the HID ones that need to be self levelling and powerwashing.

they make a difference to a car so i would guess they would help you on your bike. worth a shot. philips x treme power are a safe bet.

    Blimey Goldspanners how times change.

Some 25 years or more ago my guvnor at the time was paid a visit by the Ring rep, who subseqently sold him thousands of their blasted bulbs.
We used Lucas bulbs before in the trucks and they lasted ages, well these Ring things were appalling, half the time they'd fizzle out as you put them in.

I used to travel a regular route empty from Widnes across to Calverton colliery in Notts to collect coal, out of 8 Ring bulbs fitted to a trailer, 6 would usually blow during that 2 hour journey, they couldn't stand the hard ride of an empty trailer.
Its a good job the guvnor bought boxes of them, cos i could get through 20 or 30 a week on my own.
I wonder if the rep was getting rid of seconds or faulty ones, as their more recent products do seem better.
