  • Hi, can anyone tell me how to effectively clean tile grout? The grout in my shower is looking particularly awful. I've tried most cleaners but nothing seems to really revive it. I can't use really harsh cleaners as i'm asthmatic.

I had BBC3 on in background last night while talking to my Mum on the phone and Anthea told this lady how to get her grout gleaming, I had sound turned down. But knowing Anthea it wouldn't have been chemicals she used. Can anyone tell me what Anthea used last night to clean the grout or can anyone pass on tried and tested advice please?
CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J

I have used a solution of water and bleach which I applied with an old toothbrush to the (cruddy) grout between the tiles at the back of my cooker and scrubbed it, with some positive results (to get it totally clean I'd need to re-grout, really).

So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • I was half watching as well so I'm not sure whether this is right but I thought she said bicarb and vinegar.

  • Either the bleach & toothbrush method as suggested by Caterina, or you can get grouting pens which are just white pigment you paint over the grout with - Homebase had them but I imagine any DIY shop would do.
  • I ended up scraping all the grout out between my tiles and regrouting them, no matter what I tried I couldn't get them back to the way they were. It took some time but it was worth it.

I do what Caterina does - bleach solution and a toothbrush.

I use the Tesco own brand bleach tichen cleaner - not very OS as I'm sure it's just dilute bleach in a spray on bottle! I spray over the tiles, leave it for a bit and then go and attack it with a toothbrush.

The bleach should also help keep bathroom nasties like mildew under control as well.
