Thank you. Im thinking The Melia Whitehouse as suggested above by L-Train. Its working out at £310 for 2 nights and seems like a very oppulent hotel and according to multi map is only 1.91 miles or 37 mins to walk to in case of worse case scenario and not being able to get any public transport. Does anybody know if its worth upgrading to the executive rooms? it would be full on pushing my budget but may have to do it.

I'm not sure about opulent, but we had no complaints. We had a standard room, so I can't comment on the executive rooms. We actually just went to their restaurant for dinner, and after too much wine decided to stay the night :p ...Hey, we live out in the suburbs of London, it was a long way home, it was Valentine's Day....

If you're willing to stretch your budget, and if you and your girlfriend like sleek & modern hotels, I highly recommend the Apex, which I mentioned in my previous post. It's a business hotel during the week, but they do cheap deals at the weekends (but clearly not on New Years Eve!). It's very close to Tower Bridge, and according to walkit.com is also 37 minutes walk to Westminster if you walk fast. And you'd have a nice romantic walk back along the river. :D There are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby in St Katharine Docks, and over the river as well. I'm a huge fan of this hotel!

Never go directly to the hotels web site to book; you can almost always get a better deal by going to another site with which the hotel has a commercial relationship. My favourite web site for booking hotels is https://www.hotelscomparison.com, which goes to many such sites and as such nearly always gets a great deal. Also good is https://www.lastminute.com, which is just about the only site worth visiting that https://www.hotelscomparison.com doesn't spider.

I stayed at the Melia White House a few years back, via a lastminute.com secret hotels deal. The room was tiny and really dated! Don't want to put you off, but thought I should mention it...

    What about this hotel:

Haven't looked at the prices but it's a great location for what you want, and having stayed at Park Plazas before they are great. If you don't mind a bit of a walk, their Sherlock Holmes hotel in Marylebone is gorgeous!

Jumeirah are one of the very high end hotel chains in the World and own the iconic Burj Al Arab in Dubai which is commonly accepted as one of the best hotels in the World. http://www.burj-al-arab.com/

If you can get two nights at the Lowndes for £300 including tax I would rip their hands off! I find it very hard to believe that they are selling so cheaply but their website says they are available but for a little more than you have been quoted. They are also offering Conde Naste rates for the same dates. That is the biggest clue you need when you visit any hotel website as to how good the place really is. Conde Naste is the parent company of Vogue publications. ;)

Have you tried giving the Royal Horseguards a call to see if they have availability? It's a personal favourite of mine and in the shadow of Big Ben.

Hi Blue. I have booked the Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel for a total of £330 for 2 nights- 30/12 till 01/01. I got the room through Last minutes secret room programme. I found it on there and with a little bit of investigative work using google i was 99.9% sure it was the Lowndes. Have gone ahead and booked it and low and behold it was the Jumeirah! Bargain!!

Also went via Quidco ( which I'v only jus signed up to)

In the end have managed to get:

Superior Deluxe room Jumeirah lowndes Knightsbridge 5 Star
    2 Nights Room Only
    For £307 after quidco discount.

Seems like a pretty damn good deal!

Would like to thank everyone for their input and help. You are all superstars!

    Thank you so much
