New Years Eve- Westminster London

im going through them all now trying to find the best one. reason i wanted one close to westminster is because im not sure what public transport is going to be like on NYE and I can imagine there will be a hell of a lot of people trying to leave that area at same time so thought it may be better if we could walk back to the accommodation. Date wise it has definately got to be from the 30/12 till 01/01 im afraid.
I'm loving the suggestions and help though0 -
To be honest I think you have left this a little late to organise. NYE around Westminster for the fireworks is a nightmare so I hear. Put it this way, Londoners avoid! I hear it's bedlam for things like toilets as well. Though I don't know how you were planning to propose.
If i were you (though this is nothing to do with me!), I would propose some other way this year and then book well in advance for NYE 2009/10 and book a nice meal on one of the restaurant boats on the Thames. That way you are right there where the fireworks are but having a lovel meal without the crowds. I believe you pretty much have to book these almost 12 months in advance.0 -
Actually you may get lucky, I just noticed one when I clicked through has spaces.
That's what I would do anyway.

Hello Goodfellla
Welcome to the MSE site.
I've been near the Palace of Westminster for New Year's Eve. My tip is to arrive at least 30 minutes early, to ensure you can get close enough to hear Big Ben.;)
When I was there, it was SO NOISEY with revellers, it was hard to hear the chimes.
I stayed in a hotel miles away from Westminster and caught a bus (there and back) to see/join in the festivities. That might be a better (cheaper) option for you.;)
Make sure you wrap up warm with scarf and hat and gloves, it's absolutely freezing standing around waiting for the 12 o'clock chimes.
I hope you enjoy your visit to London and I hope she says 'Yes'.:D
Regards

I think transport is free NYE in London so perhaps you could stay a little further out.0

Thank you. Im thinking The Melia Whitehouse as suggested above by L-Train. Its working out at £310 for 2 nights and seems like a very oppulent hotel and according to multi map is only 1.91 miles or 37 mins to walk to in case of worse case scenario and not being able to get any public transport. Does anybody know if its worth upgrading to the executive rooms? it would be full on pushing my budget but may have to do it.0

i think the restaurant boat idea is fab. don't give up on the whole idea, i think it is wonderful. according to the tfl website the walk from big ben to russell square is 38 minutes; they always underestimate I find but then again it will be very busy. but you won't care how long you walk for, the two of you will be in your own little cocoon of love!
