I have just paid off my First Direct card (whoot!) and paid another £336.18 off the dreaded, now attracting interest Skycard..... so todays payment total is... £456.84! Yay for that, small ones/min payments for the rest of the month now tho

Well done Sarah.
I cant recommend snowballing highly enough, using mine I have shaved 6 months off my DFD, and its great to see in figures how much you are shaving off, and how much interest you are saving.Moving on upSPC #382 ~ £40 banked

I can't belive how many people have joined this thread - it's great that we're all working on the sam goal. Just wanted to say Hi to everyone and Good Luck on your challenge. 2009 is going to be the year for me and I hope we all reach the target we've set.
I'm finally motivated and looking forward to pay day (25/12) and not dreading it. It's the first time I've taken full control of our money and not let it control us. I've set a budget and we're sticking to it. Our sitution is difficult as we live in Germany, but it does mean that our UK bills are seperate from our living costs. I'm making the most of it and not spending any of the surplus money in the UK and am making sure it's going to the debts. Normally I'd order something for the house or children on the internet and get it sent out here, but I've stopped it. I've not spent anything this month in the UK as all our Christmas shopping is done. My DH are trying to have 3 No spend months in Jan, Feb & Mar which will help the target a lot. It's time we only spent on the essentials!
Since starting the challenge on the 1/12/08 I've paid off £242-39 which I'm delighted with. It works out as over 2% of our debt has gone.Nearly debt free....at last Roll on July 20100 -
Hello I can't believe I haven't seen this threead before.
I want to be debt free in 2009 too!
Its a bit of a tall order especially since it depends on me keeping my second job - that may not be possible. but I am determinded to NOT give up and get as close as I can.

Finally had time to read the full thread and it's great. I think we all deserve a pat on the back for joining up! Extra Well Done for Mizmir for adminstrating it.
Does anyone want to join me with a mug of gluwein to toast our future success? It's the proper stuff... got it from my local Christmas market in Germany today! :-)

Welcome Buffy and well done debtfreein2009 - brilliant payment. We've now committed to paying off well over 300K and have managed nearly 2K so far - which isn't bad as we have only been going a week or so. So well done everyone.
I haven't managed any debt payments but I have saved a huge amount on car insurance - £327 on two policies! Got better policies for less and should have £90 coming in cashback as well. Add to that I did some dog training yesterday which paid for 2 weeks groceries (and with enough left for my week's costs at least) I am feeling things are going OK. Will keep on top of things and may have some left to pay out later in the month - but with Christmas expenses and a trip away next week I think I'll be joining those planning a big push from january!
BTW - in case anyone wonders - I am following hypno's tip of usng thanks to keep track of what has been added - so if you've posted a payment or asked to join and I haven't thanked you it means I haven't yet added you to the total. Of course doesn't matter if others use their own thanks in between - but just so you know I haven't forgotten you - am just trying to make sure everything gets added properly! For the same reason please only post payments once - not cumulatively - or our total will seem to go down quicker than it should!!0
