  • It's possible the problem isn't the 360 at all, it's the router. You mentioned MAC address cloning before, you'll need to do that again if you have a new console - contact your ISP's helpdesk for advice on the bestw ay to do that (they may need to register it their end).
  • Thanks. this is all alien to me im afraid, no, the 360 is fine as its a new console, my ISP is virgin media, so i ring them is it? i thought that i might need to enable or disable something? (remember doing that when he had 1st xbox). dont understand about the router though, we have a cable from xbox to pc. bit hesitant to ring help desk actually as i wont have a clue what to say and probably wont understand what THEY say either. thanks for replies though

  • Everything looks right there, so the likelihood is your cable modem/router isn't recognising the MAC address (this is the physical address you mentioned) - each piece of network hardware has one which is unique. Back in the day Virgin wouldn't allow you to use another device they hadn't authorised so we used to have to "clone" the MAC from their cable modem onto our router in order to connect to the internet.

What is happening for you may be that the router itself doesn't have the 360's MAC address in its table, so it's automatically denying it access; if you got the router from VM then they should be your first point of call - otherwise post the model number here.

How did my modem recognise the mac address when we first signed up to live then? This has only happened because we had to have new console? i remember putting info in manually before and although it was a bit of a nightmare everything went through son was playing it right up until the red light fiasxo last week. stupid question but is the router the same thing as the modem? really not sure what to look for on the modem, it is virgins and the only number on it is E08C007 AND mac 00.De.9B.E6.D8.50 which is different from the one i found on my settings (niot sure if its 9B or 98
