also if your son is desperate to play it then id call GS and see if they would swap it for you as thats easier for you,

the hard drive is the 1 thats attached to the left of the xbox unless of course he uses a memory unit which slots in the front,

oh its off GS online, id call GS first then see what they say,
as been mentioned if you call MS they could send a refurbed machine but it depends if its worth repairing the 1 you send

it went yesterday teatime and he hasnt been right since!!!! hes quite a loner so when he was chatting to his mates online i was chuffed for him. need to sort it out for sake of my mental health

if you call GS and explain its your sons console and he loves it so much they might and i stress they might say to take it to a GS store to get it exchanged

I can tell you its Gamestation if its under a year they should just change it if it was brought new .
My son had the Elite and just a few weeks out of warrenty the 3 red rings came up and he phoned the free phone nu and it was collected and back within a week .
Only five days later he gets 1 red light and after buying another cable still not working so after another phone call they come and collect this time its gone to Germany they have had it 10 days now ,
I know its hard for him re his games play standing and points ,so he has been an ordered a white arcade 360 as the other bits hard drive will work on it then he does have a spare cheapest he found the arcade was £99, my son is very much a loner and for me he chats and wins sometime his name is Kingdoberman on xbox live

yes but the OP bought it offline so the OP would have to wait whereas if she bought it from a gamestation store then cookie could get it swapped say today

FWIW one of my mates had a similar thing on his, he took it back to GS (without the hard disk) and they swapped it on the spot. Not guaranteed, but if they'll do it this seems much better than chasing MS.

And as said, don't worry about the points and membership - it will draw this info down again to the new console via xbox live.

Think i will ring GS and plead!! Also it might help if i was to tell them i was going to purchase the band bundle for guitar hero!! (altho i bought it off play.com.) We have a local store so i hope they say take it to them, i will need reciept though wouldnt I? i have the transaction on my hubbies online bank statement so i am hoping that when i speak to the online folk i can give them the date and Auth code and they can chase it up. I HAVE got the receipt in house but that would take a day to find it!! Sons got aspergers so it really is a big issue to him, might mention that to and pull at the chap/chapess`s heartstrings! worth a try

also he has a 120gb hard drive so def keep that yeah? what if the prob IS the hard drive?
