XBOX 360, one red light, options?

Bought off Gamestation in March this year. one red light code 74 (very popular i hear!!!). Now, i have heard conflicting advice of who to contact. Some say one light is not covered under warranty by them?? who do I contact? Gamestation or Microsoft. Also what happens to one year gold membership and points i just bought and put on 3 days ago? will i lose them even if someone sends replacement or repair? Really gutted for my son as ive bought him guitar hero world tour for xmas at the pricey sum of £150 quid!!!!!!!!! Does anyone know how we can try toi rectify this fault ourselves? we have removed cables etc and tried to leave it off but nowt. really desperate

google suggests either hard drive or av cable problem, unplug everything, wait 30 mins, plug it all back together and try again. apparently if the error remains it is covered by the 1 year warranty, but not by the 3?!

The 3 year warranty is only for 3 red rings of death, surely if its showing 1 red light then its faulty and so should be taken back to gamestation

I would phone xbox anyway just to check if they will pick it up.

so it is microsoft i contact? been on wiki about this and this is quite common!!! only prob people have said is that if you send away for repair you prob get a refurb back and not yours!! thanks for replying x

is it the american number on their website i ring? bit of a long shot to get it done by xmas isnt it?

The points are associated with your XBL account, not the console.

do you mean the gold membership and points, if yes then you dont need to worry, this is stored on the hard drive, so if you take it it to GS for a swap then keep the hard drive and explain that you have left the hard drive at home so if they could just give u a 60gb console minus the hard drive eg they take the hard drive out of the box(it worked for me) or you could phone up GS first to see if they would swap it for you
