    Hi please can i join?
I have a big pot of change which i am about to count out so will post my starting total.
What a great idea saving the money for xmas 09:T
I just have a couple of questions..
Do the banks change the money ok?
Do you all wait and then change it up all in one go, or do it in batches lol.
I have used those coinstar machines in tescos in the past, as my mum said that the banks only change 5 bags of coins at a time:confused:
    Off to count the pennies!

i am wondering this too. but surely if its your own bank they must do so? i am thinking small businesses must cash their change in etc?

My bank will change as many bags as you can carry in there at one time! Changed £25 worth the other day with no probs.

Several banks around us have signs saying they will only accept 3 or 5 bags a day from personal customers.

Last time I had a pile to bank (needed them in so that some direct debits would clear) I asked at my own, and was told that as long as I was paying it into my account they would take as many as I had -- as long as it was all correctly bagged in the proper bags (which they gave me a huge handful of). So (at least for now) I can vouch that anyone banking with the C**p shouldn't have a problem :T

If you simply want to go into a bank and swap some coins for notes then they dont have to oblige you at all - after all they're a business and you're not a customer!

However if you are a customer and are paying the change into your account, then they will probably do it, but restrict how much they will take at any one time (it's only because theyre usually short staffed and weighing coins is a time consuming task - its not fair for one person to hold all the other people in the queue up for ages) Halifax = 5 bags per day unless its a child account or charity account.

Mixed coins are usually not accepted - they need to be seperated and put into proper clear plastic coin bags (not plasic food bags or paper bags) You can get coin bags free from your post office or bank and should bag them up as follows:1p or 2p=£1 per bag. 5p or 10p=£5per bag 20p or 50p=£10 per bag. £1 or £2=£20per bag.

I have to say that I agree with Glenda.

Plus I know that at my local Tesco there's almost always a member of staff around the self-scan -- and if they see someone feeding notes above a fiver into the machine they always keep an eye on change being dispensed. If they see a note coming out they always come across to make sure you collect it too.......

If you're passing an empty launderette and are not in a rush, nip inside and have a look in the washer door seals, that's a reallygood place for finding coins
