  • i have decided to pay for the update on norton, i suppose i will have to do it online.

ok then i think i will have to get on top of all these things that can potetional go wrong with my laptop.

    :rotfl:

well i shouldnt have spoken too soon

its has happen again at 11.48pm, i managed to catch everything on there so here goes:

(line of writing that says something like) you computer has closed down due to a critical error....

    Kernel_data_inpage_error_

if this is the first time.....

this could be due to recently added software....

    stop: 0x0000007A (0xC03DD2FO, 0X00000E, 0XF74BC558, 0X1B8CF860)

    atapi.sys_address F74BC558 base at F74B0000, datestamp 3D6DDB04

    well hope that helps someone....anyone...

Stop 0x7A can be caused by bad sectors in the

virtual memory paging file - try start run chkdsk c: /f , then reboot to check hd also, possibly recreating the page file may help, control panel/system

disk controller error - come back to that (faulty disk).

virus infection - re-run stinger and other scanners

memory hardware problems - run CD mem test, or take out one of the
memory sticks, and leave it in the anti-static packaging it came in, if problem continues, swap it with the other one, to try and pin it down if it is bad memory.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
  • and again at 0.16am

everything was the same but instead of atapi... it was

    win32K.sys_address BF95E6DD base at BF800000 datestamp 4341DCFF

then i turned my lappy off and back on, went to the toilet and came back and there was a smaller blue screen saying this:

checking file system on c: type of file system NFTS.
one of your disks needs to be checked for consistancy you may cancel but it is strongly reccommended that you contine.

then below this the was loads of writing and processes.

I have now given up on this lappy and am going to sleep, i will try those other things thst i said on my earlier post tommorow, oh well

also try running stinger in safe mode (F8 at boot).

also follow ffym's advice, about backing up anything important to CD, just in case the hard disk is on it's way out (it's not an IBM/Hitachi Travelstar drive is it - it's usually under a flap on the bottom or side)

Have you heard any clicking noises from the hard disk, usually when you switch it on, a sign of impending failure in HD's

  • right i turned my lappy on this morning and it started with a black screen with white writing on that stated (in the first line) windows did not start successfully....

that has now been done thanks ffym :)

i havent got a clue how to find that ibm think sorry :(

right it beeps most of the time (usually when i am typing on the internet) but i have heard some clicks every now and again but never when i switch on

I tryed that disk but nothing happened :(

sorry about all this albertross :(
  • it happened again at 10.04am after posting the message above, it loaded and then i clicked my user name and the screen keeps frezzing at the hp bit before it loads my desktop.

I am using my brothers computer and internet connection as mine will not work..

i will try it again later but i have given up on it now :(
  • well i turned on my computer around 5 mins ago and its doing a cycle. as soon as i turn it on i get the black screen with white writing saying windows didnt start sucessfully....

it then jumps onto the screen with the microsoft logo on with the small bar underneath it....

then a blue small box flashes up (to fast for me to catch anything on it) and the closes my lappy down amd starts again.

so i removed the new memory I put in and tryed again and its doing the same cycle.

I am still on my brothers pc :( does this mean this lappy is destined for the scrap heap? is it fixable? will i be able to claim on my extra (5yr) insurance i took out on it?

    any ideas?
    thanks in advance

as before, try getting hold of a linux boot disk like Knoppix and try booting the laptop from that, if it runs ok then i would say it's windows causing the problem, if it still crashes then it looks hardware based

do you not have a recovery disk for the laptop ??

I had the identical symptoms but only under the following conditions:

    1. A wireless network card was installed
    2. Laptop had just come out of hibernation.

Cured when I moved from Win 2000 to XP, but it still behaves erratically if I use the hibernate feature several times without rebooting.
