The CD was to check the memory, so try it at some point, but for now, I would run every virus scan you can, to make sure you have no infections.

The viruses you did have could have caused the BSOD's you have been getting, but it could still be memory, so try the CD later..

  • as said in the post above (sorry i edited it lol) i am running the stinger :)

so i know, if i do try it, how do you use the cd?

I don't think I've used that particular RAM tester, it was losers tip..

But, put the CD in, boot the laptop, and if it boots all should become clear (or maybe not).

If it doesn't boot from the CD, you may need to go into your bios (as your laptop starts up - it should say hit a particular key to get into the bios F2 maybe), and then find the boot order screen, and move the CD to the top of the list (above the Hard disk). Is your head hurting yet, mine is!

You'll be able to get a job in IT at the end of this!

  • ok, i will try it tommorow maybe :)

OK, it could have been a false alarm, but if you continue to get shutdown in 60 seconds message, then you may need to keep scanning for a bit..

See how it goes.. I going to have to go soon, got a few things to sort out before bedtime.

Hopefully another techy will jump in, if you need anymore help tonight.

And yes, I work in IT.

  • i will prob keep going onto windows update every two days this week just in case :)

i will, i will be off soon too anyway :) but after this stinger has finished i will post if anything was found.

i should be ok now, but these last few weeks have taught me loads :) i may even buy myself a book lol

Provided you got automatic updates setup in control panel/security center, and the firewall is enabled, you should be ok. You need to sort out an updated virus scanner though..

Just google, it's cheaper than a book! If you google for sasser lsass, that should tell you all you need to know about this particular threat.

    And thankyou..night
