an ad on the back of the paper on sunday:
nintendo wii consoles
in stock
order upto 5:30pm for next day delivery
they must have a lot of staff, or postman pat is moonlighting for them !:grouphug:
no wonder he has a smile on his face...0 -
I'm not too keen on packets etc being left in the recycling/wheelie bins - what if it's a collection day??? I really don't want my item getting recycled!
On the other hand, I have a cat flap and smaller packages have been shoved through there before now!!!
Luckily OH is a postie and keeps anything back so that he can bring it home with him :T0 -
My postie is lovely, and as I am addicted to buying things on ebay, I know that so is the 'man with the van'. I am one of those that would prefer the item to go back to the office for me to arrange re-delivery, and I have explained that to the posties. They have left stuff on the step for me when I lean out of the window half way through changing a nappy or yell through the letter box that I can't find the key to open the door but I'll keep looking...
My grumble is if the redelivery fails, I cannot get through to the office, not by any number given. I can get through to complaints, but I don't want to complain about my postie I just want to complain about not being able to sort something out on the phone. (26 unanswered calls is my current record).Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -

my office covers 4 postcodes.two of those are mahoosive
most times we have one guy covering the door for collections, enquiries etc plus answering the phone.
coupled with around 130 online redeliveries a day.
most online redelivery failures are down to people who struggle to put the info down in the form.
eg putting its a special delivery when its packet, putting their address as their name
if the redelivery fails then just rearrange again online. delivery office staffing isnt going to increase0 -

I do appreciate that the posties have their work cut out. The two examples are when I had put all the right info on the online form, but they had put 10 Nov, Wed on the packet (which was a Monday) and it arrived Weds and I thought it was funny. The other problem was that they were not doing deliveries due to lack of a van. I had had a bit of a splurge on ebay
and I was getting emails asking why I had not left feedback from several sellers. After a fortnight a man in a car came round and left me seven parcels. There had been no attempt to deliver them previously, they had been stuck in the sorting office for a week or so.
There had been no previous attempt to deliver them (and so no card and no way of booking anything online), and there is no way to find out if there is a problem unless I ambush the postie (which is how I found out about the lack of van) or ring - except that I cannot get through to find out if there is a problem. According to the postie, there is now one person instead of two fielding the string of people waiting and the phone, so they have unplugged the phone. I can't blame them, I really can't. But it is a little frustrating. Because if no card has been left all I can do is wait to see if something turns up. It is REALLY hard for me to get to the sorting office.
And I won't take it out on the posties, because it is not their fault, and the people in complaints said I was being unreasonable in trying to find out if there was a problem.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
the guy in his car isnt helping
posties who use their own private cars dont see the bigger picture
of course RM are happy for them to use their cars
itmeans they use less vans, fuel etc plus need less driving staff as posties do the part of the driving duty that a driver would do.
the posties are actually taking a pay cut with the costs they incur running their car for RM
our phone is often unplugged, infact i suggested to management we get the national 0845 number on our cards as at least people wouldnt waste hours trying to phone us
i got knocked back on this idea
i work indoors but im giving serious thought to returning to foot deliveries.at least then im only responsible for my own !!!! ups0 -
Custardy - I can see where you are coming from. I did actually say to the postie that I would be trying to complain, but not about him, if you understand my meaning, in the hope that enough complaints would generate perhaps a little more help on the ground.
I think my postie is a hero and I was so glad he came today with something I really wanted, but in deep snow. I would not have held it against him if he hadn't.
I have a problem getting out of the house, so I rely so desperately on mail order and our posties have (despite the few grumbles I have had) been wonderful. It's an absolute lifeline.. I just wish that the post office was properly funded, because it's not about the post office's profit but about the post office allowing so many others to make a profit.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -

id love to say it will improve but it wont.
ive already had a look over the proposals for next years 'savings'
this combined with a pegasus review. pegasus(or georoute) is a piece of software RM use to decide how long a duty should be,how long it should take to deliver etc
just google pegasus/RM to see how well that has gone in all the other offices that have had a review0 -
I've ready Terry Pratchett's 'Going Postal' and thought that it was an extreme parody. Not so sure now...
Well, I appreciate the posties, anyway.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
