Just seen the article but what is this about not overfilling the tank "otherwise it goes out the overflow"??
What overflow, I didn't know there was an overflow. Where does it go??0 -

I think it is the case that most diesels will work fine on biodiesel unless they have natural rubber based fuel lines as in fords. Synthetic rubber hoses don't get 'eaten' by the biodiesel and are OK.
If you want to run on pure untreated veg oil then unless you drive a tractor you really need to do some alterations to the injectors and fuel pump. For this some fuel pumps are better than others at coping with the increased viscosity of veg oil. If you go to the following website there is all you need to know:

As for economy, I had an old 1.3 petrol car which generally gave 35mpg, when I got a newer 1.6i I got 40-45mpg, maxing at 49.5mpg. Interestingly the best mpg I ever achieved was doing 75-80mph on a trip to alton towers! Economy whilst cruising is more dependent on traffic and driving style than simply following the inverse square rule, I was less economical cruising at 55-60 than at 70-75 which is opposite to what you would think! I've now got a diesel megane so I'm now looking forward to 50+mpg.
AIR CON - how much air con affects your fuel consumption is entirely dependent on the car it is fitted in. (This info comes from an air con engineer by the way) In their 2.0 tdi passat having the air con on makes little difference, but in a diesel ford focus the effect is terrible on fuel use. So maybe in a focus you would be better driving with the windows open instead? You can only tell by checking it out yourself. If you are sad like me then you can put your mileage and fuel quantity in a spreadsheet and get it to calculate the mpg (assuming you always fill the tank).
PS. Use an ASDA credit card at their fuel pumps and you get 2p off every litre.0 -

It's not really correct.
A typical petrol tank will have 4 pipes (as well as the pipe to the pump and a return from the engine).
-fuel filler pipe
-air out pipe so that tank can be filled fast. This goes back up to the nozzle.
-filler overflow pipe from filler cap to tank
-small pipe from top of tank to atmosphere to allow air into the tank as the engine uses up fuel
There is no fuel tank overflow pipe.Happy chappy0 -

I've been using Esso lately and found it seems to give me better mpg but then at the same time, I've been doing more high speed driving lately as opposed to getting stuck in a city-centre traffic jam.0 -
As above, take out an Asda Credit Card, and you can get 2p off each litre of Asda fuel. They reserve the right to change the terms at any time, but ...0

Anyone use the ctech3000 catalytic converter device, https://www.ctech3000.com, claiming to reduce fuel costs and emissions on any car?
Any feedback, please.0 -
It seeeeems that a six-seater car with a Guy Negre compressed air engine will cover a hundred miles in city traffic on one charge of compressed air that costs about 30 pence when produced by a mains driven compressor.
Could you investigate, please?0 -
Does any MSE know of any available Grants for the conversion to LPG - That would cut the cost of motoring?0
