I can make a spreadsheet in 30 seconds that does this!
    Happy chappy
  • I don't doubt that you could. I guess that question was more of an aside and I was more interested in whether or not the concept was sound (from a personal point of view, not some commercial one), so the question still stands.

Having said that, the program does also take into consideration what happens when you're not refilling your vehicle with the same amount of fuel each time and if and when to 'project' values (eg. you put in x litres, travel y kilometres then 'refill' but only put in z litres... how do you deal with the fact that your 'y' kilometres was not 'powered' by the original fuel only... that kind of thing).

It also does graphs and can suggest which type of fuel to purchase depending on the price of one particular type (essentially breakeven points) and graphs and that... like I say, I realise that this is doable in a spreadsheet, but anyway.

Currently, I am driving a 1.9D Xsara and was thinking if it was cheaper to drive a 1.3 small car to save on fuel costs?

    Thanks for your help

Does anybody know where the cheapest vegetable oil is on sale at the moment? I went into my local Tescos tonight and it's 65p per litre - at that price it's so close to the cost of diesel anyway, it's hardly worth using it!

Where is Diesel 65p/l? IME petrol is around the same price as diesel...

I actually said it was close to it - not long ago vegetable oil was about 45p a litre, 1/2 the price of diesel. Now it's within 25p, or almost 3/4 of the price. It makes the hassle less worthwhile, and certainly would take longer to recoup the cost of conversion if you wanted to go down that route.

Anyone use the ctech3000 catalytic converter device, www.ctech3000.com, claiming to reduce fuel costs and emissions on any car?

    Any feedback, please.
    Dear Mr Muted
My owner bought me a ctech3000 for my 36th birthday and all the other cars tell me that I sound much better, much as I did 30 odd years ago !
I am not as thirsty as I used to be but my owner is too lazy to measure it exactly, he took me for an MOT two days ago and I thought you might be interested in the results of my emissions test which were :-
    CO 0.25 (%vol) ; CO(cor) 0.27(%vol) ; CO2 13.50(%vol) ; HC 40(ppm vol)
    O2 2.05(%vol) ; Lambda 1.095.
    Yours sincerely

I'm heartily sceptical of all supposed fuel-saving devices. The only money they generate is into the hands of the manufacturer. I had a quick google and came up with these:
Fuel Saving Info - as a knowledgable chap, he doesn't think it could ever work. It's worth a read.
The ASA - they concluded that none of their claims have ever been proved in anything but one car, and they didn't know the circumstances surrounding that test.
Basically, they can claim what they like, but have proved nothing. Don't believe them.

That's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard! Sounds like a typical internet chain letter hoax.
How can it be so ridiculous? We want more people power. Vote with your cars. This is a money saving site let's create another way of saving money!!
