I received the same e-mail on 25th March, only I was told it would be the first week in April. I contacted my credit card company - Capital One and asked them to refund under section 75 of agreement and have to say that although I expected a long drawn out wait, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had refunded me the total amount within days of receiving my letter, so full plaudits to Capital One.

I sent a pm to 4 posters on this thread, regarding some things I found out from Panasonic about Teleworld after speaking to them, needless to say they have received many complaints from people who have not only ordered and not received, but also from those who had received and were unhappy about their Televisions purchased from Teleworld.

1/ Some, if not all of the Panasonic Televisions, Teleworld have been supplying to those fortunate (or unfortunate) to have actually received them, were non UK spec, buyers were calling Panasonic asking why the models they bought did not have certain features which had been advertised, apparantly the UK models have a much higher specification than other non UK models.

2/ The free upgrades that Teleworld were offering were:-

    A. Although new 2009 models, they were not actually released to the market, hence the reason Google returned nil results when searching for info on upgraded model Teleworld offered.

    B. Both inferior spec and in most cases cheaper than the original paid for price.

Now my dilemma is who can you trust to buy from, furthermore the Television I researched so much is no longer available...oh well kind of getting used to the 19" in the sitting room
  • We purchased two Sony TV's on our Debit Visa Card on the 10th January, 2009

We were advised that they take the money up front and then order the goods so they are able to give good discounted prices Since this date it appears to have been a 'battle' to get the goods for which we paid.

There have been numerous excuses about non-delivery over the past few months Excuses range from -

'They will be in stock in 2 - 4 weeks'
‘We can provide you with an alternative (inferior) model’
‘We will compensate you with a free DVD player’
'we are unable to obtain the TV you ordered, however will upgrade to the new model coming out early April’ (however no year given!).

When we logged on to the website on 31st March 2009 to raise the issue of the delivery of the promised televisions, the site informed us that they were no longer trading.

We paid for two TV’s and were led to believe the smaller one which was in stock would be sent when the larger one was in stock - this also has not materialised, or again in my opinion never existed.

Now having looked further into this company on the internet, it appears through the concerns of many other customers of Teleworld that they ceased trading through a shop in December 2008; however, they continued trading on line.

It is my very strong opinion that this whole scheme has been one of fraud, in that money was taken and there was no intention to deliver the goods. This story seems to have been repeated a number of times with a great number of customers.

It appears that they have not yet gone into liquidation, according to the information provided by Companies House.

As we paid by debit card I am led to believe we will be lucky if we get any of our money back

I am formally requesting an investigation by Bexley Heath Trading Standards into this 'scam'.
  • I too bought a tv from teleworld on the 11/02, I got the emails delaying it till the first week in april with a promise to a upgraded model, i used my debit card and thanks to this website contacted the bank who are now sending out forms for a refund so fingers crossed i will get my money back!!
  • I got my money back from Virgin Money, and managed to buy the same system for £20 cheaper at the Sony Centre in Bluewater, glad to put this sorry affair behind me and wish everyone else luck in getting their money back. Remember even if you have paid by debit card it's worth contacting your bank, as I have recieved a refund in this way before.
  • Following on from the scam that has caught us all. I decided to check out the Section 75 act with my bank. When I contacted them they stated that because I authorised the trasaction via worldpay there was nothing they could do. Other than recommend that I contact consumer direct to try and find out the name of the company dealing with Teleworlds affairs (if there is one?). I then mentioned to my bank the section 75 details mentioned on this website and I was told that unless they had already agreed to refund my money then there was again nothing they could do. Guess what, I have email proof from Teleworld stating they were organising a full refund via worldpay. Bingo! I now have a dispute number and an address where I send the email refund evidence from Teleworld to HSBC and then my account will get credited with the full amount that Teleworld charged. I'm glad that I always keep all documentation regrding purchases. Hopefully this will be very helpful for other consumers in the same predicament.

Useful advice on the Teleworld Support Group Forum on

    forum.pricerunner.co.uk/thread.jspa?threadID=29179&tstart=0
  • Please note that the company has ceased trading and will be going into creditors' voluntary liquidation on 30 April 2009. Regrettably, the company will not be in position to refund monies or to supply items ordered. Those customers who have made a purchase using their credit card should contact their card issuer to request a full refund. The card issuer may request some evidence of liquidation in which case you should contact M Arkin of Arkin & Co Insolvency Practitioners who will supply you with the written confirmation that you need. Arkin & Co have been instructed to assist the directors with the winding-up of the company and can be reached on 01707 828 683.

Those customers who have paid by debit card should contact their bank in the first instance, who may or may not make a refund as each bank has its own policy in this regard. If the bank refuses to refund your debit card transaction, you should contact Trading Standards who may be prepared to take up the issue with your bank on your behalf.

Those customers who have paid in cash will regrettably receive no refund.

A further message will be posted on this forum after 30 April to update customers.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact M Arkin of Arkin & Co Insolvency Practitioners on 01707 828 683 or send an email to info@arkinco.com.

  • I have only come to this thread recently, having discovered that Teleworld has been declared insolvent. My own circumstances appear to be extremely similar to many others listed here. I ordered a Panasonic LCD TV in January 2009 and after much prevarication, Teleworld failed to supply the item, having taken the funds from my bank account the day after I placed the order.

I have spoken to a Senior Fair Trading Officer at Bexley Council who has advised me to contact Companies House. He suggested that if Companies House receives a significant amount of complaints against individual company Directors, then they may pursue them, especially if incidents of fraud or criminal activity might be suspected with regards to the circumstances of the insolvency.

    I would urge as many people as possible to contact Companies House in writing, to complain about the activities of Teleworld and it’s directors;

    Companies House
    Crown Way
    Cardiff
    CF14 3UZ

Teleworld is listed at Companies House, their Registered Number is 3724086. The Directors being, Mr Baser Huseyin, (date of birth 01/05/1961) and Mr Ibrahim Huseyin, (date of birth 05/09/1958).

I would be interested to hear from anyone that has/does contact Companies House.
  • Help. Having been lucky enough to have ordered and received my goods from Teleworld back in December the Sony TV has now developed a problem . I didn't purchase their extended warranty so only have the manufacturers 12 months. What should i do next to sort this out? I've asked in a local Sony Centre but found them very unhelpful which was disappointing for a major brand. Any help, advice, would be greatly appreciated

There's a number to phone in the manual, they're very helpful but it's an 0870 number and I couldn't find an alternative. Thay'll tell you to take it to your local Sony approved repairer.
