Why do we keep seeing posts about the VAT cut saving jobs. What cobblers. It will not save one job. No company in trouble is going to see a turnaround and say, wow thats good, i dont have to lay off staff. Get real, it wont happen.
As for a name and shame thread-why not? We have every right to discuss who has cut the VAT and who hasnt. It all comes down to the website name moneyexpert.com. Thats why we are here.0 -
Oh, I just wanted to add that faceless websites are often people like me, people who choose to work from home or cannot be tied to certain working hours. My son has a disability, I choose to have my website to give me a break from being a mum and full time carer, might seem like an odd choice but it works from me and it gives me something else to do when he is at school or is in bed.
Faceless they might be, but they still need support from customers none the less as these are hard times for everyone.0 -
All Arcadia stores are taking 2.13% off maually at the till point (and I haven't forgotten to do it once yet!) Not one customer has asked if we are taking it off and some have been pleasantly suprised when their bill has been cheaper, others haven't really batted an eyelid and others have moaned because of the amount of small change they are gonna have in their purses!0

It strikes me that, no matter what, the consumer is deemed to be in the wrong. If one chooses to shop carefully and save money one is considered a cheapskate and unsupportive of those small retailers who have no choice than but to have higher prices. If I choose to shop online I'm not supporting my local economy and if I opt for buying from my local shops I'm not supporting those who set up online businesses for whatever reason. I agree that the whole VAT situation is an exercise in gaining political popularity, however, the thread title is one which requests information about those not passing on the VAT reduction to their customers not asking for a debate about the whys and wherefores concerning the difficulties faced by companies who are at the sharp end of administering the cut.0 -
I'm currently trying to claim a (v small) refund from Kodak for overpaid VAT. I bought goods from them on 1 December and their website and confirmation email to me both state I paid17.5% VAT. I've checked and double checked and they're right - I did pay 17.5% not the reduced rate of 15%.
I've asked for a refund of the £1.92 (!!) I'm owed three times now but each time they have said I've been charged the correct amount, which is obviously not the case. Frustratingly, there's no telephone number I can call to talk to a human being, although I wonder how useful this would be.
Normally I wouldn't quibble over such a small amount, but I wonder how many others have been overcharged in the same way.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.0 -
