Hi,
I would love to know which companies (who are VAT registered) who have not passed on the new lower VAT - or who have in effect increased their net prices by 2.13%. (as opposed to their gross price)
Time to name them......
So that I and others can shop elsewhere.....

The prices will stay the same though.
As far as I know there is no law to lower the prices.0 -
No law but not reducing the prices means in effect the companies are making 2.5% more profit0

Or 2.5% less of a loss. Have you considered how much it would cost the retailers to change all their prices throughout the store. Even somewhere that uses barcode scanners would have to spend a number of hours changing all the shelf end prices. I dont see why retailers should foot the bill for a half baked idea like the 2.5% VAT cut that will make no noticeable difference.0 -

And I suppose that passing on a 0.5% mortgage rate drop is pointless as well??? think about all the letters needing to be sent out for everyone to be told the new payments. Why should the mortgage companies/banks foot this cost?? The fact they are putting prices up or not passing on a saving could make people shop in places that have done it and therefore put these companies in even bigger financial trouble.... stores are already reducing prices because they cant get rid of goods so they are having to change thier prices anyway.0 -
I'm thinking that instead of changing all their prices, some businesses will pass it back in the form of %age discounts at the till, or possibly some other promotion.TOP MONEYSAVING TIP
Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!0 -

Well I wanna buy a new (well nearly new actually) car, and not many dealers seem to have decreased their prices. In fact a couple of them last week told me that because they'd purchased the cars with the 17.5% rate, they'd have to sell at the same price. Surely don't they reclaim the 17.5% and only declare the 15%?? It can make a couple of hundred pounds difference on a £10k car.0

I have been noting down prices of goods before the change in VAT and after the change in VAT.
Amazon prices have NOT changed even though they are advertising on their website that you can buy goods in November at the new 15% VAT rate.
I know 2.5% is only a £2.50 savings on a £100 item, but companies like Amazon are conning us in believing we are getting a better deal.0
