  • anyone know if IKEA are cutting prices?
  • I work in a shop and , although the POS will not be updated with the new price, the VAT reduction is taken off at the tills. So you can't just wander into a shop and check the prices, you'll need to ask.
  • Well Asda are passing on the savings at the till! Case of beer on the shelf was £7 but at the till it was £6.85. Well done.

Also British Gas are also passing the savings e.g. Homecare (not energy as this is at 5%) You should see the savings being backdated in march 09 due to their systems. But well done.
  • Maplins haven't passed on the savings - bought a network hub for 24.99 - VAT Receipt showed 15% as it should.

    BOO!

Yes HMV stores are passing on the discount, in fact if you get student discount you even get more as we take the extra VAT off books which aren't VAT rated ... if you are referring to the website then it's based offshore so the VAT issue is different to the UK stores ...

Where did you get your inaccurate information from ... ?

Sainsburys (non-food) charged me 15% VAT on Saturday (the price ticket was higher than the actual price paid at till and on receipt). :T

The Caravan Club are not passing on the reduction. My membership was due for renewal today so I phoned them to ask the question. They started by telli ng me it did not start until January. ( I think they were confused by my question because January 1st is when the are increasing their membership fees by £1) Then I was told that the fees were only increased last year by £1 so the VAT reduction on the £1 was insignificant. I then pointed out that the VAT was charged on the full £36 of the membership subscription not just on the £1. The end result was that the fee was not going to be reduced by the 2.5% so they are pocketing the increase. It is not the money that is my issue after all its only 73p its the principle.

Sorry everyone but why are you concerned about 2%? Okay this is a money saving forum but 2% less on an item is not going to entice me to buy it.

Amazon. No price change. VAT stated as 15% and total is the same. This means they are off-shore and don't pay VAT hence pocketing it anyway or they just changed the VAT to 15% and are pocketing the 2.5% difference. At this rate VAT will be back up to 17.5% or a lot of business will be penalised.
