What's the strangest "substitute" item you've been offered on your home delivery?

  • I think the strangest one we've had was getting sausage rolls instead of sausages. Nice, but not something you'd have in a buttie for breakfast!

(I suppose that one isn't that weird in comparison to some on here, getting cheese instead of trousers?????)

We used the Asda click & Collect for the first time last week, and we got some of the wines which are on the 6 for £25 offer. As always, some of them were substituted for other wines of the same type. No problem there, until I got home and checked the bill. Turned out I was being charged £35 MORE than my original estimate from the website :eek::eek:.

It turns out that Asda has a policy whereby if they substitute items for others that are not part of a multibuy, you lose the multibuy discount.

It's apparently not their policy to inform you of this when giving you the shopping either. I couldn't believe it!!!

So - be very careful if you use Asda delivery and get substitutions - you could end up lining Mr Asda's pockets more than you wanted to.

ASDA substituted an entirely different DVD for a DVD.
The only similarity they had was that both had 'war' in the title. One was a comedy and one was a thriller.

Thats never happened to me when I get my online orders (delivered), in fact I usually do quite well with the wine subs and meat subs are usually in my favour. :T

I had issues with Tesco substitutions and multibuys.
For example Hula Hoop six packs on BOGOF. I order 1 six pack of salted and one of beef. They replace the salted with a 10 pack, but would charge same price as the six pack so it seems fine. But as I don't have two six packs anymore, the BOGOF doesn't work and I pay for both. So I give all back to the driver and have no hula hoops :-(

Not a sub but asda Bearsden once charged us £240 for a single orange - think someone was leaning on the scales when they weighed it!

They had to put the order through as not collected then take us to a check out and scan the whole lot through and we had to pay by card again.

All in all it was a bit of a nightmare, good thing we did click and collect and it wasn't a home delivery.

This happened to me once too but when I noticed I sent them an email and they refunded me the difference.

So do you all leave the driver on the doorstep while you check everything off the list? As I said I did wonder why he seemed to want to hang around (maybe he was just after my stunning company?!!) but thought he was just waiting for a tip which I gather isn't the norm anyway. I wouldn't want to keep him waiting as I'm sure he has targets like 10 drops an hour or something, like the postman.

I've only done this online shopping lark the once and it seems full of potential pitfalls!

If there are any substitutions they will be at the top of the receipt and in a seperate bag anyway so you can check them off first and give back to driver if needed. I normally then do a quick check of the rest for damages and tell the drivers its all OK.
