What's the strangest "substitute" item you've been offered on your home delivery?

Can't beat the tampax/twix
We had tinned pasta shapes subbed with mushy peas (yuck!). Was for DS who is autistic - swear screaming could be heard 10 miles away0 -
Brown bread instead of nan bread.
Mushrooms instead of onions.
Curry night went really well that week.0 -
I received my first ever home delivery today - Asda. I've just realised I was supposed to check while he was here wasn't I. I wondered why he hung around a bit - I thought he might have been expecting a tip - does anyone tip the drivers?
Most of the subs were ok, disappointed about my favourite cheese but not the end of the world, however the 5 children's toothbrushes sent instead of a washing up brush is a bit mysterious. As I didn't check while he was here, I'll just have to find a good home for them, and put up with manky washing up brush a bit longer!
I really don't understand the logic behind some of the subs though.0 -
i think you can still reject them if you call csWhat goes around-comes around0

I am a picker for Asda homeshop and it's not that easy. We work on strict time constraints, so we are constantly rushing. If a customer wants subs then we have to sub or it goes against our departments figures and then we get it in the neck from head office.
Sometimes the explanation on our palm is very poor. It may just say pack of brushes and unknown location, that's a lot of brushes in one store to try and find the one that scans in the allotted time.
I know it's very frustrating when you don't get the correct item but on the whole we try very hard.
May I suggest that you check the no subs option.0 -
Thanks. No in the case of the brushes it really doesn't matter. In fact the toothbrushes are quite hard so I will find them useful myself! But not for washing up.
Interesting to hear the other side, I've been reading this thread this afternoon and other pickers have explained the difficulties too, sounds really hard and something that needs addressing by Asda management.
As a new e-shopper I hadn't realised there was a 'no sub' option until I read this thread, I just assumed I'd get what I wanted or at least the next best thing and certainly hadn't realised either that it would cause you such difficulties. I also assumed that one washing-up brush would be substituted with another, not 5 toothbrushes. I didn't know you didn't get the full description, that's a pretty rubbish system isn't it and certainly not your fault!
However with most things I don't mind a sub, so the cheese I had instead of my favourite was actually perfectly nice as was the substituted bread. I do wish you had substituted the chocolate for something healthy however, am a bit sugared out this evening!!!
Thanks

In my experience of working in retail, your not allowed to accept a tip. I'm not saying every company is like this, but a fair few I've had experience of are.0 -
Still no mad ones here. I've got a delivery booked in this week so I live in hope.
As long as they don't mess with my Easter Egg!0 -
No mad subs again, just perfectly sensible ones, and my Easter egg was safely delivered!0
