I am awaiting a date for my medical, this will be my 4th..... My first i had at home, failed, ended up going bankrupt, the 2nd i was signed off for 3 years, the 3rd i failed, took 6 months to sort out, they decided to reverse the failing, i had it sorted finally in august and in november had the forms for another.... why cant they find someone else to stress out!

I have M.E, vertigo, anxiety attacks, agorophobia, the list goes on... oh and depression to make things worse. I've been 'on the sick' for 7 years, had to fight for help and I now see a nurse (at home) once a week. A psychiatrist cant help me, psychologist cant help me, I get one hour a week with a nurse to ensure i am 'coping'.

This medical will be done in the house (the vertigo alone stops me from travelling), my nurse will be here and will be giving her opinion also.... i have no idea how this one will go!

And to think all this started as my dad was a policeman as i grew up and he worked in the town we lived.... big mistake.. i've been beaten more times than i can count, guess that explains the anxiety!, the doc will walk in and i'll end up sitting the other end of the room, shaking like a leaf, and the one last year still said i was fit to work?

Going to the CAB is the right thing to do. They will help, or do, the appeal paperwork for you.

I went to appeal because my IB was stopped several years ago. It is a distressing experience. However, it took 10 months before the appeal day but I WON. You can take your husband with, or someone else. Whoever you take, it is best if they stay calm, not be rude and do not shout.

They have to prove that you do not have the condition which they originally gave you IB for. Get as much medical evidence you can from your doctor, list of medication, family and friends in writing: a friend of mine's husband wrote a letter stating that he helped me to do things in the house and garden which I could not do. You may have family/friends who take you/accompany you because of your anxiety/panic attacks,.

Have you tried alternative therapies to help you overcome your condition?
Hypnotherapy or counselling. You should ask your doctor.

    Good Luck

hi i was in the same position, i had exactly the same thing, severe depression, panic attacks this all happened after having a baby, i went for a medical and got my ib stopped due to a doctor just asking a few questions like you.
i filled in a gl24 as mentioned above and asked them to relook at my claim and it was decided that the doctor had made a mistake and i got my claim re-instated and backdated.... i did not have to go to any meetings etc it was decided with out me having to go to see anybody...it helps if you have the support of your gp, there was no need to go to the cab as you just need to fill in the form.
beware thought the process of them looking at it and deciding if you are entitled or not takes about 6 months, and i had no benefits in all that time, luckily my husband was working and we had tax credits so we had some other income !!
    good luck

    beach whats happening huni?
its disgusting..im on ib myself and at when i had my medical it got took off me iv got severe abdo pain caused by adhesions for which i have spent the last 3 years in and out of hospital with bowel obstructions and pain.
iam on morphine for the pain constantly. the ib doctor took me off it..i appealed also and got it back for another 5 years at least. my doctor put a complaint in a against the doctor as he had lied on his report...im on higher rate care and mobility of dla and im really annoyed to be honest reading devils post on how he beats the system...people who genuinely need it get taken off it and people who are faking it get it all. (not everyone who gets it is faking btw just from what devil said)
iv got depression myself as i live 24/7 in agony and its sooo hard to deal with life in general never mind anything else.
    hugs huni.
    rach x
p.s before i got ill i was in college and working but after spending 5 weeks in hospital with a bowel obstruction and from that point iv had 3 months at home in 1 go the rest has been in for 3 weeks home for a week and back in for another 2.
    any idea whats happening next??

one or two thing are blatantly obvious. Patients are having trouble prooving they are ill and having trouble convincing the ATOS doctors they are genuine.
Their is now increasing need to contact the CAB and WELFARE RIGHTS before filling out forms and also before traveling to the medical.
Both of the above organizations are now getting weighed down by the sheer amount of work pertainind to IB and the new ESA.
Going to a local wefare solicitor is also another option..(welfare rights can put you in touch) THE FIRST HOUR may be free and after that you may have to pay depending on your circumstances.
The above organizations may recommend going for a private medical exam which you would have to pay for depending on your personal circumstances.
At least that way you would have a unbiased concise written account of your illness, which most ATOS medic would find hard to query.
If you do have to pay i personaly think it is well worth the money.
WELFARE RIGHTS and a Solicitor will also tell you the best way to travel to the medical also how to dress etc..This is not cheating,,a defendant going to court would be advised to wear a suite and tie if he were a man
The ATOS doctors should only be interested in the various desciptors..but this is not the case and they are trained to for instance look at how a ladys makeup is put on,how you sit or walk into the examination room also things like how you unzip your coat.
The bottom line is ....Sadley its just a game to them. and the innocent and the sick are getting caught up in the middle.

It is filling me with dread when I get the results back from my medical as the Dr did not understand my depression however it did not help when they got the muppet GP to write a report the one I do not see in the practice as he is an idiot.
I get panic attacks, I can have outbursts when I go out which are not nice and I have almost ended up getting a slap a few times.

I am still waiting for a proper diagnosis on my depression as it is not getting any better infact it is getting worse at times and I feel that yet again it could take another cry for help before anything is done, but mental health is not recognised and the ATOS drs are usually the ones that are dismissive of depression.

I said in order for me to go back to work I would need a bloody good and supportive boss, as along with the depression I also have Dyspraxia.
Of all the things I have lost I miss my mind the most

I know it is easy to say in a forum on the internet...But the best thing for you may be to ask your doctor to recommend a specialist...or go private,i know its the money but look at it as a long term investment and also you cannot price your health.
At least as your gp for a second opinion!

I had a friend had private medicals reports, three of them in fact. This was because her reason for being unable to work was due to a very serious industrial accident, which was going through a compensation case. One was even from the other sides Dr who found in her benefit. She took the most recent medical reports(the case had went on for several years)to her IB medical. When she offered them to the Dr. for his examination he just waved his hands and said not interested. They said the medical was based on his observations not others. The same thing happened at her industrial injuries and DLA medicals too.I don't think they want to know the actual facts to be honest, just what they make of iton the day.
