I grate an apple into the mince and then roll them into little balls and cook them in a tomato sauce. I know what you mean with the flavour, I don't like it that much either and put some curry powder through it as well, or chili powder.

    Hi Bextars,

There's an earlier thread on using turkey mince with some ideas that should help so I've added your thread to it to keep all the suggestions together.

Turkey mince makes beautiful spaghetti bolognese, it gives a lovely light, sweet flavour to the dish, very different to that made with beef mince.

Hi, we use turkey mince all the time; we don't eat lamb mince or beef mince and substitute them with turkey mince for all the lasagnes, cottage pie, spag bol, moussaka etc. The initial cooking smell is a little bizarre but the taste is fab and its healthier for you!

    Hi,
I bought this on offer a couple of weeks ago, 2 packs. Any ideas on appetizing recipes. I bought it for a chicken bolognese and whilst it tasted ok looks a bit like sick.

Don't know what to do with the other pack now.

    Thanks

  • Turkey and cranberry pies are lovely.

Ingredients: enough shortcrust pastry for your dish(s), 1 onion, 2 handfuls stuffing mix, 1 pack turkey mince, 1/3 pint milk, 1/2 jar cranberry sauce, salt and pepper, handful of plain flour.

Line your dish with pastry and blind-bake. Finely chop your onion and fry it off with the mince, until the meat has browned. Now pour in your milk and stuffing mix, and continue to fry off on a lower heat until the stuffing goes soft, and stir in your flour to soak up the rest of the liquid (you may need to add a little more milk for enough sauce).

Cover the base of your pastry dish in turkey mix and then add a layer of cranberry sauce. Finish with the rest of the turkey and pop on your pastry lid. Bake in the oven until the lid is cooked :)

This also works really well with pork mince, apple sauce and some sage.
I like you. I shall kill you last.

oh yes, like the sound of that. Might try that one with half the mince.

    Thanks

I've used price-reduced minced turkey as a direct replacement for minced beef in Bolognese sauce and Chilli Con Carne, but I did add an extra OXO cube to literally beef it up.

I have a recipe for Keema (minced beef) curry, which I could do the same with.

I also have a recipe for risotto, which uses either minced beef or chopped chicken, so minced turkey should give a result somewhere in the middle!
