  • Hi everyone,

I have just sent my dla form back. My son is 4 and his current dla runs out in july (when he turns 5). I have a coule of questions:-

Does anyone have any idea how long it takes for them to get back to you with a decision??

At the moment I get high rate care component, if they change this for example to lower rate is it with immediate effect or from july?

Also he has a disease that will be with him for life, can they stop the dla completely?

    Thank you

Renewals can and often do take as long as new claims, and this can be upto 12 weeks,if there has been no change then hopefully everything will be ok,if there is a change im not 100%sure when its effective from
  • There is a 6 week target for renewals but it can take longer if they need more evidence. If they were to reduce benefit because needs have gradually reduced (for example) they usually do it from the renewal date. If benefit is reduced because a change of circumstances has happened (say an operation that improved the persons condition) and the dept wasnt told they can use any date they choose appropriate (day of decision or date of operation with suitable recovery period applied). I knew someone who was origanlly awarded for epilepsy. They had their medication changed and this pretty much made them fit free. Because they didnt tell them until the renewal over a year later they removed DLA from an earlier date and they had to pay back money previously paid.

My daughters was reduced to low rate care from the renewal date. She too has an illness that won`t go away but it has actually not been as bad since the renewal so for me their decision to reduce was the right one for this year.
