is norhern rock ok being owned by us?

Yes, but rates changing quickly now and their site does say "rates subject to review", so no guarantee the 5.15% will last long.

May be better to go for a fixed rate, albeit at a lower figure, if you want peace of mind for the term.

    icesave fixed rate deposit maturity 15 jan 2011;

i am thinking of waiting till maturity, but one worry,
when this option is elected during initiate claim

could anyone tell what will happen next?

should i have to wait maturity to get paper claim forms!!!
i believe that claim forms wil be sent only after the maturity date fscs
so i have wait for another six weeks for getting the cheque from fscs!!

so which ever way 6=8 weeks interest is lost!!!

hence is it a good idea to get the money now to nominated bank.

could somebody give suggesstios and advice please.

I received the following email from FSCS, relevant para:

If your account was a fixed rate savings account and you have chosen to keep it until maturity FSCS will send you an application form to complete and return.

From this I assume the paperwork will arrive shortly and be duly logged by FSCS on return for actioning on date of policy termination. I am also assuming there will be no break in interest accruement from 7th October until end of fixed term. There is no reason to impose any further delay, those incurred thus far would have been due to the overwhelming volume of claims made within a short space of time.

So unless I'm being naive, fixed term holders who elect to stay the course should benefit twofold, firstly through no interest break, secondly by maintaining the higher rate originally negotiated with Icesave.

    How do others see this?

Ronnie Barker was the master of word-play (or his scriptwriter was) just like you clearly are. "Fork Handles? Nah, Four Candles!"

Ronnie Barker's scriptwriter? Just for the record, Barker personally wrote many of the sketches for The Two Ronnies (and several other shows in which he appeared), submitting the scripts secretly under the pseudonym "Gerald Wiley" ('wily' - geddit?).

By using a pseudonym, he hoped not to influence the producers into using - or rejecting - his material.

Thankfully, they found Gerald Wiley's sketches so amusing that they were happy to broadcast them - including 'Four Candles' and those clever word-play sketches. Many years passed before Barker revealed that he was the mysterious "Gerald Wiley".
