hi all,
been to aldi this morning and spent another 40 odd quid ( update later) all aparently essentials for my hubby you know the ' i cant have xmas without a....??? etc etc.' I know full well some will be left afterwards but not in the mood to create a disagreement. At least he will have a smile on his face.
Very productive kitchen this afternoon, ham boiling away, veg soup simmerING, banana cake and fruit cake cooking in the oven and when they come out its mince pie and jamtart time. Some will go in the freezer and others in the tin for us and visitors over the weekend.
Think i have everything now unless i run out of something in the next couple of days.
gailey- we have given up on the turkey this year, always gets left and we not too keen so this time its a pork loin joint and gammon joint instead (which we all love), no money will then be wasted and, everyone will enjoy it and all will be eaten. hope you have a good xmas.

In 2009 I [STRIKE]want to [/STRIKE] need to cut my spending on food by half....from £70 per week to £35 per week:eek:. I am spending too much time on here trying to find food specific tips and not enough time bulk cooking etc so would anyone else be interested in this thread being a food only quick find tips thread? No "use a hot water bottle to stop you putting on the heating" type tips... more just "bulk out your mince with lentils/oats" type tips.
Wartime/rationing/general fabulous food tips post here please :T0 -

What you're looking for is the monthly Grocery Challenge - December's is a sticky at the top of the thread. Pink-winged and I have tried very hard to keep this as a grocery only thread, so you'll get plenty of tips and support there
I'll move this over later

Hi lalaladybird,
As Penny has said the Grocery Challenge is the best place to get help with reducing your food spending. The experts there are fantastic at coming up with tips to eek out your budget and are brilliant at thinking of ideas to make things go further.
These threads may help with the questions in your original post:
Bulking out Meals?
Thriftlady's wartime experiment
And these threads also have lots of tips and ideas for inexpensive meals:
Cheapest recipes???
Meal for two for 50p. Suggestions?
The Cheapest Healthy Meal Ever!
Feed 6 for £1.62
Cheapest meal
Your Cheapest Evening Meal.
cheap, easy family meals
Show Jamie How To Cook On A Budget Champagne Contest
Meal idea's under £1
Personally when I have a question I prefer to find a specific thread related to that question rather than wade through a long, general tips thread so I use the search function (you can find tips on searching here) but if you ever can't find what you're looking for then pm me and I will try to help, or ask on the Quick Questions thread at the top of the board and you should get a reply pretty quickly.
Good luck with cutting back.

I have found so much useful info on this forum that i set up a group of files on my computer for recording all the tips that are relevant to me - i would only lose a notebook, and it keeps them all together for me to read over and remember!August grocery challenge: £50
Spent so far: £37.40 :A0 -
Hi all,
Managed to stay out the shops today but I'm sure we're going to be over budget this month.I've prepped all the whoopsied veg into the freezer which is nearly full with my whole mutton so that should last a whiley.Mr Russetred got a lovely surprise in his wage slip it seems he's been underpaid all year so over £500 backdated pay.Perhaps half a pig methinks.....Merry Xmas!"Sometimes life sucks....but the alternative is unacceptable."0
