December 2008 Grocery Challenge

Hi All
I've missed a lot of this month's challenge as things have been a bit hectic here. Still within the budget at the moment though. I'll pop out from work at lunchtime tomorrow to get some shopping (fingers crossed it won't be too busy then), then just need to pick up the bird from the butcher on Wednesday and, other than some milk, that should hopefully be us for the rest of the month.
Got a letter yesterday to say we won't be getting our annual cost of living payrise this year, due to the credit crunchSuspect the men at the top don't do the grocery shopping, else they'd realise the cost of living has most definitely increased! Apparently the directors have taken a voluntary pay cut - I suspect this is meant to make us feel better about not getting a payrise, but as far as I'm concerned it just proves they were paid too much in the first place!
Happy birthday MrsM for tomorrow  And If I don't get chance to post again this month, hope you all have a wonderful :rudolf: Christmas :santa2: and fabulous _party_ New Year :dance:You can do anything, make anything, dream anything. If you change the world, the world will change.0 -
Went to ALDI n got a few more xmas bits inc a bottle of Baileys copy called Ballycastle:p
Think that's me more or less done now;)

It must be rough to have to go without a payrise, but at least you still have a job. The other option for management was probably to offer a payrise at the cost of job cuts.......
I've had a number of years (about 6) where our 'above inflation' pay rise was only applied to about 80% of my salary, so I didn't even get inflation. Having finally gained something two years ago I was on sick pay for most of the year, so didn't benefit. Another reasonable increase this year from June - but my job went last month.
Personally I think I'd rather have the zero payrise
(And that's not a go at you for feeling a tad sorry for yourself, just trying to get you to look at the positive side of things)Cheryl0 -
cw18, I do realise I am lucky to have a job, and will certainly not be moaning about the fact that we currently have more work than we can actually do - it's stressful (hence not much time on here recently), but at least it makes it hard for the company to justify more redundancies.

I'm declaring for Dec that Ive been absolutely awful!! I've no idea how much I have spent!
I get paid 2mo and have to make that last until Jan 28th!! SO would like to be added to Jan 09 GC for £100 please.
I hope to make 2009 the year to sort my debts out once and for all. I'm also trying to get my Big Sis to sign up too.
Happy Xmas to everyone here, and I hope you can all help me out in the new year.
:beer:My name is CherryPie and I'm addicted to grocery shopping!!

Ok, I'm declaring at £206.92 for December so £6.92 over my budget. But this was a stocking up month so I don't have to get as much in January in case of baby arrival! Don't know why I said "in case of.." as it's got to come out at some point! So next month we're back down to £100 budget please! I've also joined the £4k a year challenge and this is what our groceries need to be so here we go!! If we can manage the £4k thing then it'll save us £1100 over the year which all goes towards making maternity leave a little easier to handle financially!!
Roll on 2009!
Almost forgot to mention - made 2 more Christmas puddings today (my family love christmas pudding!) but in all the excitement of getting my stock pot out of the cupboard to steam them in, my OH didn't put the lid on properly and it slid very slowly and elegantly to the floor when it's shiny glassiness was shattered to verrry small pieces...Is it immensely sad that I am gutted by the loss of my stock pot lid?
Have looked at replacement lids online but for the price of them I might as well buy a new one and have 2 pots and 1 lid!

Would you mind letting us know how you get on with the BM please? I have an old Russell Hobbs one that needs a new paddle but with the paddle costing half as much as the Tesco BM I'd rather get the new machine given the choice.
Thanks,
