No, they showed the final 3 couples, but nobody managed it. However, once the recap had ended, they did show that all of them had taken 'inspiration' from the show and were all doing much better!!!0

I think it's given a lot of people inspiration, it's just the time scale that was totally unrealistic, but great tv and food for thoughtLaughter is the sun

I loved the young man who was the ballet dancer's comment ,when he was told by Rene that he was no longer going to follow his progress.
He said he felt as if he was being given the sack , that he was being told he failed just because of the two year limit.
He went on to making a successful career out of his endevours when they revisited him at the end of the program saying perhaps it was because the pressure had been taken off.
It seemed as though the pressure was the thing holding some people back.0 -
The main ones to turn it around I think were Andy and Jeannie (and I'm not just saying that because Andy's posted on here). At first I did wonder what other surprises Andy had kept hidden but they did pay off an amazing amount of debt as well as dented the mortgage remember and the optimism throughout was great as I don't think I'd have been as positive in the same situation. Jeannie seems a genuinely lovely person, the kind you'd love to have as your best friend and she was fantastic in supporting you throughout the knockbacks and in building her own business. I must say the chocolates did have me drooling at the end. I didn't see the first episode so can only comment on what I saw tonight but it looked like things were finally beginning to come together at the end. How are things going now Andy?
Duncan - I didn't really have time for him at all. I felt he was a bit of a spoilt brat type of person who was used to Mummy and Daddy fishing him out and that he'd applied for the programme on a whim and didn't have any intention of following it through. How is he earning £50,000 just by doing school breakfast clubs or did I miss something else there?
Chloe and ... oh I can't remember... was it Heather or have I just made that up? Anyway, if they had the staying power to pick a project and stick to it then I've no doubt they could have done it as they had the drive. They just didn't have the ability to stick to anything for long and that's what let them down. Personally though, I wouldn't pay to send someone a kiss over the internet. I'd email them for free and put a "x" at the end.

He couldn't resist a footstomp under the table and wanted to know why he couldn't have an extension on the two years. I had to laugh at that.
The blurb at the end might have said he turned things around but I still can't see how he's earning £50,000 by doing the breakfast clubs. Half an hour, five days a week during term times only (32 weeks a year, is it or is it 34?"). Was there another income there to make up the £50,000.

I think the thing about this programme is the two year timescale. Rene was encouraging all the contestants to set up their own businesses, and it takes at least two years to build a business, and unless you are very lucky and have the right product at the right time it's going to take more than two years to reap any profits.
Well done to everyone that took part. I actually find it heartening that no-one did manage it because I find it so depressing on this board sometimes to read how people are managing to pay off their mortgages early.0 -
andrew_lloyd wrote:We all met up in London because Rene being the good guy he is, threw a party for all the families and BBC crew to celebrate the completion of a 2 year experiment. A private screening of the series was shown. We all watched a compilation of highlights from each episode, so I haven't seen the full finished episode. What I would hope for is that you find the episode to be entertaining, fun and inspiring. Absolutely everyone that Jeannie and I worked with were lovely. The same as Sean and Anne Marie, I wouldn't hesitate to do this again. When filming began I genuinely had only known my partner Jeannie a short time, so for us this is a wonderful home video. I hope you enjoy the last episode. As for Sir Cliff, I hope you have a sense of humour!
Hi !
I saw the programme and just wanted to say well done to you.
I could never knock some one who has the get up and go to set up his own business and who is willing to perform in public. It takes a lot of guts to do both.
Just to say I wish you well and you came accross on TV as a real decent guy with lots of motivation and creativity. Your partner came accross well to as a lady with lots of ambition, ideas and not afraid of hard work.
Good luck to both you !

Well -having seen a handlful of the originals and then a handful of "what happened" ones...
I think all of the people I saw grew/matured - call it what you will. For Sean and Anne-Marie to publicly share a tragedy that has rocked a fair few of my friends and to still make a large sum to go towards their mortgage - that was pretty inspiring!
I was also quite impressed with Andy and Jeannie - although I might have to hit him with a bill for a new remote after drooling in it at the sight of those chocolates!
Obviously we can only go on the editing, but I had to howl at the TV at Duncan... I actually missed the last bit (grrr DVD recorder!) but I see on someone's post that he made an absolute fortune?
Well we talk here of our lighbulb moments - that one event that turns our lives around? I suspect that was his... although I'm not sure I understand how he thought he was being "fired"... and I'm sure I saw a couple who joined 8 months into the experiment - if they weren't given an extension, can someone explaint to me why he should have had one!?
I'm sure if I'd spent 2 years trying to achieve this goal and was told "you can't" I'd be fairly crushed... but I'm sure I heard Rene praising him for how well he'd done year on year, and how he's grown so much.
But here's the thing... Rene speaks of cutting back and maximising income. I would loveto do a LOT of what these folks did - but the truth is... I can cut back on elements/budget my socks off - that's easy with some effort. Not all of us can do the additional income drive... so to all the participants - well done ... I really admire you!- Mortgage @ March 2008: £194,965 ; Lightbulb Moment: July 2011: £164,926; End Date: March 2033
