Pay Off Your Mortgage In Two Years Blog Discussion

Hi Sean,
I thoroughly enjoyed your programme last night, and whilst I agree with a lot of the comments made so far (you need to motivate yourself!!) the fact that you had a whole programme to yourself, and the next programme covers three couples suggests yours was a more interesting case. Well done.
So far only once couple has managed to pay off their mortgage in the two years, so don't feel down. What I think you have achieved is the ability to pay your mortgage off in (maybe) 4 years if you persevere with your NLP work. You talk about Positive Mental Attitude - just remember to practice what you preach!!!!
I had a thought, which I hope you have taken up, when Rene was looking at your bank/credit card/store card statements he showed several 'late payments' - I hope you have reclaimed these using the advice on this forum.
Good luck - and as someone has already mentioned on this forum, keep us all posted as to what happens in the future.0 -
Anne-Marie and Sean
I gotta agree with Kaz2904. I think yous have done extremely well regardless of what others say - the significant savings in both years made me think hard about what I could save!
The thing that stood out for me about last nights prog was the fact that yous are very genuine ppl (leading real lives with real problems), which made me want yous to succeed even more.
Anne-Marie did say something at the start of the prog which made me laugh... about if/when yous accomplish the goal and pay off your mortgage, that maybe yous'll buy a holiday home... and presumably get another mortgage?0 -
Sean and Anne Marie, well done on your achievements! You got rid of the dreaded credit card debt and had some to pay towards the mortgage too.
You are very brave to go on the program at all , as are all the people who have been featured.
Half the problem with this series is the way it has been put together.
Obviously the BBC advertised for people who wanted to pay off their mortgage in 2 years, those who are highly self motivated and know how to go about doing so, will already be doing so ,the people answering the ad will be those who want to but dont know how to.
Rene whilst a very nice chap is just the kick start,he motivates people, its his job but he is not the constant mentor. He is asking people who have not been motivated enough for themselves to pull a rabbit out of a hat and suddenly become business entrepeneurs. Just because something is possible ,doesn't mean it will happen.0 -
Have not posted here before but would like to say a big well-done to Sean and Anne-Marie. Must be very difficult to have your whole life bared for television. I have the following comments to make:-
Anne-Marie, my heart bled for you. The sadness in your face after the miscarriage made me cry.
Sean, you have a tremendous talent. I realise that you have not reached your potential yet but felt that the programme did not take into account the effect that the miscarriage must have had on you, and that going out to take risks must have been the last thing on your mind for a while at least.
It is easy for us all to comment but as I heard on a programme once 'don't criticise us until you have walked in our shoes'
Anyway, all the best for the future.0 -
Thanks Spendless!
I think Rene would kill us for the unneccesary expenditure if we were on the show, or make us use her for TV or film work, she'd make an excellent Bond cat!
Sean and Ann-Marie, well done! I think the life changes you have made are more important than the original quest for the mortgage.Give yourself a Chistmas bonus £14 a week!
Total so far £280 -
I have to say that even though you didn't manage to pay the mortgage off, you both did excellent and managed to save far more than if you were doing it on your own.
I think it was so brave of you to both carry on after your traumatic experience and people have to understand how much this would have set you both back.
Now for my thoughts on the rest (I really don't mean to offend)
I thought BBC didn't necessarily put you in the best frame of light. I noticed a couple of times when they seemed to show you sat on the computer for a minute, or just doing a little job and then saying "I'm shattered" and going off for a cuppa. I thought they made it look like you kept giving up after only working on your projects for a brief period of time. They showed you reading teletext etc. I know that this probably wasn't the case and you had worked all day previous to this but sometimes felt quite sorry for how they portrayed you but I suppose they want what makes good viewing.
I think that you have been given absolutely terrific opportunities that would possibly not have arisen for you had you not been involved with the programme or the guy that took you to meet the MD of the shopping channel. Truthfully, he must get loads of mail that he doesn't even read from people in your shoes, but because of the programme, he met with you. You must grab the bull by the horns so to speak and not let these opportunities pass you by!
I have to say that I admire you both as I am too camera shy to put myself forward for any kind of thing that would be aired on TV for millions to watch!

I've been loving this series although I've missed a few episodes (thanks husband!)
Sean and Ann-Marie my heart went out to you when you lost the baby and how brave of you to have it documented like that, I think I would have crumbled (big hug).
I thought last nights episode was great, almost a third of your mortgage paid off - it's really inspired me! thank you.new to comping in 2010 big thanks to all who post!

Sean, do you know if there are any plans to return to any of the participants in the next year or two to see if anyone is continuing with their ventures in order to pay off their mortgages quicker?
Editing due to poor grammar *tut*
Lotta"One hundred years from now, it will not matter what my bank account was, how big my house was, or what kind of car I drove. But the world may be a little better, because I was important in the life of a child."0 -
Unfortunately I missed the first 50 minutes of the show but I've a good excuse - I was earning money to pay some more of my mortgage
Anyways, I think that no matter how small the amount, paying anything off your mortgage over and above the monthly repayments is fantastic. If I can make savings as much as this over the next years - and I plan to have my mortgage paid off in 5 years - I'll be very happy indeed.
I really do wish that I had the talent that Sean has, I have to work with what I've got so it'll take me longer to make as much money but that's ok as I think trying to pay off your mortage in two years is a tall order. I did see the previous episode where the guy had a sales job and was able to make £54,000 in one year in extra sales - I mean we all don't have these kinds of jobs so as I said we have to make the best out of our own situation.
I didn't get to see the whole episode so I don't know who the guy was who was encouraging Sean all I want to say on that subject is - can I have him too :rotfl:

Hi, I just wanted to say as the other posters above have said, your personal experience puts into priority other aspects of your life, and i can totally understand why it was more important than quitting smoking etc.
I actually felt that your programme seemed the most realistic/most in touch with everyday people compared to the others. It showed a family with "normal" jobs, 2 kids and everyday family issues. I watched it thinking, yes, there is more you can achieve when you set your mind to it, but that Rene seemed to be genuinely impressed with you both, and the summary at the end seemed to show that you will both strive on and achieve this goal in a few more years, with a stable, loving and contented family in tow.
ps-see you at haven 1 day!! (we try to do a cheap hols there once a year, think it is important for family life too!)Mortgage free 04/03/2025. Thanks to this site and lots of overpayments bit by bit.
Next stop: house repairs, holiday fund, replace our very old cars, more financial security/early retirement savings.🤞0
