thought there should be more advice, even if just a passing reference, to switching mortgages to cheapest interest one. And switching gas and elec bills to make them lower. it was just saving money by bulk buying and cutting out kids stuff and charity payments. could have made some pain free savings - to quote Martin in Make me Rich.

There are a million other programmes which tell you how to switch mortgages and cut costs etc. I find the challenge more interesting and it would be a shame to cut the coverage of the ups and downs to tell me what I already know about needing to pay taxes on money earned. This info is out there people!

The couple last night served as a warning to me. I like to play it safe to avoid risk. I need to make some changes.......however they were right that their happyness needed to come first

true, there are other shows. but this doesn't even really provide the couples any sort of buisness advice. just lets them get on with projects and provides some advice at the end about whether its worth while or not.

IMHO the business advice, contacts and push that Rene provides is what makes the difference in this programme. We all know how to save money and I think the interesting bit is seeing the entrepreneurial (SP?) side of things and Rene definitely sets up meetings with people that they would never get otherwise.

I must admit I was a bit disappointed by the Dan and Lucy one where Rene had to buy a stove to make up the shortfall!! Otherwise very entertaining and inspirational in it's own way!

I'm in agreement with goonlord. The only bit I would comment on is that I thought Rene wanted a stove from the day he saw them!

I thought the programme was "cooked" as some mentioned already.

Also what might be a huge risk to one person might not be a risk at all to another.

I could see how Renee tried to use NLP on the poor chap to push him to be more adventurous or risky in the approach.

I totally disagree with the whole concept of this paying off the mortgage early malarkey. It should be left to each individual how to best do it. Some might take 15 yrs, and some 5 yrs. In the end quality of life and how to go about it counts most.

The figures did not add up and they never said how much they both earned, how much they are spending on food etc. The fact that they managed to save £1000 per month means that one of them if not both are on large salaries.

The kids had no pocket money! I mean come on! And the holiday in the UK for a week spending time in a car, well, that is not my cup of tea at all and would not even class it as a break.

In the end its all just TV, to get us to sit in front of it, buy the book. Just like Big Brother. Pure entertainment (we are a bunch of voyeurs looking at other peoples houses and finances).

The warning at the end where the wife says that yes you could pay off the mortgage but at the risk of having no quality of life, your marriage going down the pan, the kids being distraught, having such a stressful time to raise it then yes anyone can pay it off...there is always a price to pay xxx

Oh and there is no way I would have paid £90 for a hamper....do it the MSE way not the very expensive way lol!! xx

But maybe the people last night (who, apart from the kids, I found intensely irritating) should not have signed up for something called 'Pay off your mortgage in TWO YEARS' if they wanted to take it slower. The BBC would not waste time and effort and a film crew on them if the researcher hadn't spent loads of time explaining the whole thing to them first.

But it was interesting to see that people fail as well as succeed in this experiment and you can draw your own conclusions about what makes the difference to success or failure I guess.

I stand corrected lipidicman - Rene did always love the stoves - and I love him! I think his gentle but firm approach is such a nice change from 'experts' in the style of Gillian McKeith!

Anyone know if the programme is repeated at all.

Apologies if this has all ready been answered in an earlier post.
