Can't complain, but not liking this summery weather. Pale Scots cope better with winter
I'm feeling a little out of sorts at the moment as it's just over a week 'til payday and there's precious little that I can do to influence my debts one way or another in the meantime, bar Jedi mind tricks.
Currently resorting to my default coping strategy when I'm feeling exasperated with the debts of writing lots of reviews, dreaming and fixing things around the house...
Are you ever updating your sig?0 -

Hey Edin

Yay - it's almost the weekend!
Got up early this morning and was full of general good cheer until I got into work and realised that I'm still half asleepI guess the reduction in caffeine levels is having more of an affect than I'd originally allowed for?
Work is ridiculously quiet at the moment as all the civil service mummies and daddies have taken their kids on holiday, leaving just me and a few grumpy old timers to staff the office! Ah well, at least I'm getting some good reviewing done.
Received my cheque from Virgin Bingo today and will need to pay it in at lunch time as I'm skinto!
Managed to pay a few pounds towards my savings and my signature has been updated accordingly.
Did anyone else see GMTV this morning? I'm still mad - they had a woman on who was essentially being paid £16k a year tax free in benefits not to go to work.
I'm somewhat disgusted - there's nothing wrong with people getting a helping hand from the state when it's sorely needed, but the fact that she was getting paid almost exactly what I do for staying at home. It really makes me wonder what's the value of me giving GB and co £8k a year in tax and working 40 hours a week when others don't and earn the same
Why spend 5 years at university and try to get promoted when a single mother can get paid the same for raising kids? I'm sure this was an extreme case, but it really makes me think and gives me yet more respect for working mothers who have to hold down a job, raise kids and try to have some sort of life without the state giving them huge handouts.0 -
I didn't see it but it doesn't surprise me.
When I split with my Ex everyone told me to ring up the benefits people as they were convinced I would get something for being a single mum. I was pretty sure I wouldn't as I know I am on above average earnings but thought I would ask.
When I told them what I earnt they laughed and then suggested that I gave up work on the basis I didn't have any childcare arrangements now I was single and they told me I would get around £1200 a month on benefits/housing benefits etc :eek::eek:
Needless to say I told them where to stick and said I would rather work full time and struggle lol.
You can really see why people do it though, I mean I would be getting a full time wage equivalent and see my daughter more...............mmmmmmmmmm why didn't I go down that route :rotfl:Proud to be dealing with my debts - DFW No: 712

Not intended as a criticism of single parent families/families that have split up, but it's almost as if the government incentivises family breakups!0 -
I agree, the bloke I spoke to was encouraging me to give up work. It's shocking really. It would make more sense for them to offer support with childcare so the lone parent can continue working :mad:Proud to be dealing with my debts - DFW No: 712

Ah well, in 20 years most of the UK will be middle aged or old and at least then we'll be rid of the scourge of the twenty different types of benefit that they try and foist upon young families. Then we'll just have our pensions to worry about0
