Why would you have a more valid excuse than me? You have never invested in property so you obviously you have not been rewarded for it. Instead you are paying a fraction of money back to the banks. They will have already sold the debts for about 10% of their worth. The only persons who will benefit are the debt collection companies. But if it makes you feel better??

Because our household salary has just halved and I don't have the means to repay my debts. You do. I have owned property in the past - the last time property prices fell through the floor to be precise. Haven't felt the need or desire to be a property owner again since, yet. Pretty glad at the moment to be honest.
I agree with some of what you say - I've had some of these cards for years and have probably paid them three times over what I've actually spent. But the only solution I can live with is if the interest can be frozen and I can pay back what I've spent. I'm not saying I will be disappointed if the creditors sell the debts on, and a debt collector offers me a F&F settlement at 50% of what the debt is (although at the moment I have no means to pay even 10% so it would be a bit pointless!) But right now freezing the interest is all I'm hoping for. I simply can't get my head around doing anything else but paying it back. I seriously couldn't live with myself.DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

Getting back on a more friendly footing;) do you think the head of myripoff bank plc thinks any better of you. You have yourself and an ill husband to think of. The debts are with somebody who probably doesn't have a legal right to them anyway.
I have seen the other side of the bank when I was younger - when my Dad used our house as collateral against a business loan. The banks showed no mercy I assure you. Why should they - they are a business. I am a business. Stebiz plcand it is my job to look after my family. Stuff the banks. If you ever do get your head around it and you want to PM for any help PM me.

My only experience of things like bankruptcy is being on the other side so I guess that's where my viewpoint comes from. And I acknowledge I can see where you're coming from too. My OH stopped work after an accident where he broke both legs and was awarded £21k in compensation. The schizophrenia has just compounded his problems and stopped him returning to work. But the defendant went bankrupt to get out of paying us. That money was to clear our debts. We've since added another £20k to it, just buying food and paying bills. BUT I've now discovered personal injury awards aren't discharged with bankruptcy so he's about to have a charging order slapped on his house that he knows nothing about
So who knows, we may be debt-free sooner than planned - well, half of it anyway. I think it's that experience that made me so angry about people running away from their responsibilities. But yes, that is a PERSON and not a money-grabbing organisation.....
Let's agree to disagree for now (until some b*st*rd DMC starts getting seriously nasty with me and I change my mind)

I don't understand this postYou are currently on the DFW board asking for advice on what you should do and are saying you haven't decided on any route yet?? I only twigged it was the same poster due to the capitalised words... Over there you are asking for advice on dealing with your debts without affecting your credit rating, and here you are saying you have already gone the route of CCA pre 2007?

I am looking into writting off the debt and credit cards.
I have recieved a letter off a company that states they can write off your bedt if it was taken out before april 2007.
They have stated :
following recent legal developments resource legal have established that loan companies, creditcard companies and other lenders have breached consumer law meaning that loans and credit cards taken our before april 2007 cannot be enforced! as a result credit card debts and loan balances are being written off in full, with no further payments and no adverse affect on your credit history.
I was wondering if any one has done this or are planning to as this company want me to pay £125 upfront and i cannot afford this hence why i am looking into clearing my debt.
Many thanks in advance Louise0 -
They want the £125 up front as they don't know whether your particular card is one that cannot be enforced. (It depends on whther the company has kept proper records - or indeed had them in the first place). It means they get paid whether they can help you or not.0
