aw bless her,my son is a 'tumbler' too
I know of a couple of people whose daughters had infantile scoliosis, they were both in plaster jackets til recently now have both got growth rods in too I don't think they like to fuse that young??
I think it depends which specialist you are referred to..have they referred to a scoliosis specialist or a general orthopaedic surgeon?
Make sure you take a list of questions with you when you go as your mind tends to go blank once you're in there..or maybe thats just me:rotfl:
She is under a spinal sergeon in the university hospital of wales in cardiff (just over 55 miles away lol) and under an orthopedic consultant aswell. They have said that as the spine is over 45 deg they will operate soon as it could collapse leaving her paralysed as she has problems with her balance.0 -
I'm not sure that you would get more than low rate care for a child this age as a 2yr olds care needs are already quite high-DLA is awarded when care is substantially more than another child of the same age. I used to help fill out forms when I was a Health Visitor and it is quite difficult to get an award for a young child-I hope you hear soon and it's good news.Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0

Yes, if she's under three you won't get any mobility for her which is a shame as it sounds like this is the part most relevent for you (you can still apply for a Blue Badge from your local council though if walking is a problem). Thyroid condition unlikely to warrant DLA unless she has bad side effects, sorry."I always pass on good advice. It is the only thing to do with it. It is never of any use to oneself" -Oscar Wilde0 -

Well all we can do is wait, She does wake up about 3/4 times a night holding her back. I dont know if that makes any difference. I will contact the council and ask them for the forms because as i mentioned before she cannot walk far.0 -
the walking won't make a difference at present (sorry) as they only look at mobility for those over 3 (on the basis that many 'normal' 3 year olds are in pushchairs - I know someone who had real problems as her child was quadraplegic and needed additional support but wheelchairs etc didn't kick in till the child was older)0

I have scoliosis from birth and the only time my parents had dla for mine was after surgery at 14 but have not got it for that since it ran out.
Does she have infantile or congenital scoliosis?
She will probably be smaller in her torso but that's because of the curve. Have they mentioned fusion at that young age or growth rods? It must be a worrying time and on top of xmas to.
the problem with dla will be her age like others have mentioned as many kids are taken around in prams by their parents, well they are in my area anyway
Couldn't her orthopod have done the forms for you as he suggested it, or maybe helped you with evidence?O0 -

Hia,
she has Kyphosis as its over the 45 degree's, she has had it from about 5 months (we noticed as it was when she sat up) Im not sure if this is called Infantile Scoliosis.
Regarding the pram, i do agree most children are taken in prams around here, the only thing is when she is at home she is a quiet child but she does complain about her back and she falls over (as mentioned before).
They have said that she will need an operation to fuse the spine soon as they are concerned that her spine will fall over it's self and cause major problems.
Got a hos appointment 2nd jan.
