Hello guys.
just got a call from man power to attend the test on 19/08/09....will appreciate it if u can give me some vital hints on the above
irc 612980 -
I had my numeracy and literacy tests for the Cardiff and surrounding area last week (14/15 literacy and 20/20 numeracy :j). We were given our interview date/time but no more information. Do they send a letter through the post with the competencies or do you get told when you get to the interview (they did say we had to be there half an hour earlier than our interview time).
hi anthenajam...can u pls tell me what to expect in the test cos i have one on wed next week and i can c from your post that u r vey good....(can u remember the mistakes.....0 -

English Test: The Literacy test is basically a letter wrote by a customer, it has 15 mistakes in it and you need to circle them. The pass rate is 9 or 10.
The mistakes are basically spelling mistakes and wrong use of a word for example their instead of there. As for tips watch out for the customers postcode at the top it should be capitalised and Yours Faithfully at the bottom of the letter also, both of these were on my test.
Maths Test:
Read data and cross reference several tables
Ratio and percentages
Multiple choice questions and the pass rate is 10 or 11.
Interview
What they are looking for is you to tell them four things...
S - Situation - what happened, what was the problem?
T - Task - what did you need to do?
A - Action - what did you do?
R - Result - what was the outcome of the action you took? What did you learn? What would you do differently?
If you apply STAR when answering the questions you should do just fine0 -

Been out with the kids this morning.
Got home to find 4 letters from DWP - 3 for me and 1 for my wife. All successful letters Not sure if it's a !!!! up but I don't really care as the offer of three 3 jobs in 1 day is pretty bloody fantastic.
I have been on a 5 year career break looking after the kids and these are the only jobs I even got to interview stage for in 6 months of applying.
By the way, the IRC numbers are 60540 (for both of us), 60529 and 61351.
Now, it's just a wait for the start dates and pick which job I fancy best (not been in this situation for over 10 years).
Wow!!! 3 Job offers in one day!!! Thats great!!! Congrats!! Hope your wife was successful also. Bet you feel like a weight has been lifted. I know i do, after months and months of job hunting, waiting and being broke! I too rarely got to the interview stage with most jobs i applied for. So demorilising to get emails telling you 'thanks...but no thanks!' everyday!
Good luck!
Divinelistic- my literacy test was mostly spotting spelling mistakes in a big letter, i found it quite tricky as when you are nervous you tend to not read properly (well, i didn't anyway!) Just make sure you circle all the obvious ones first and then go back to look for the less obvious. You only have something silly like 8 minutes so gotta be quick!!
The numeracy was basically cross referencing a few tables of info. Mostly adding/subtracting with a few percentages/ ratio questions as qadsey said. You get 15/20 minutes for that one. It was all quite easy, i just found the time limit too restricting so didn't finish a couple of questions."You dont need a weather man to know which way the wind blows"0 -

We were both successful in our favoured EO role in Leeds. GULP - we will probably work together (she will be able to see what I'm up to all day).
I did those test things this week for the most recent interviews I had - I passed which meant that for the second day's interviews I didn't have to sit them again. I had to wait nearly two hours with nothing to do. The organisation of these recruitment days is getting slightly better but they really ought to have it streamlined by now.
My wife went to an assessment day last week in Halifax and the tests were supposed to start at 1.00. Lunch turned up at 12:55 so all the candidates had to wait until 1:30 while the interviewers had lunch. Why? Surely, they don't need a degree in nuclear physics to organise lunch and testing to be at different times.0 -

Wow! Glad to hear it! I bet there will be some celebrating tonight!! Actually, i suppose if anyone is like me they will have no spare cash to celebrate!
I'm sure it will be great working with your lady, remember you can check up on her also! haha!
The assessment day was rather long winded. Mine seemed very hurried. Hence why they almost sent me home after the tests, telling me i failed when in fact my letter said i had well and truly passed! Doh!! The old 'got put in the wrong pile' excuse was reeled out! Hopefully it does get better, some people spend whole days there, getting more and more nervous before their interviews!!"You dont need a weather man to know which way the wind blows"0 -
Got mine this morning as well :j there is no mention of a waiting list - is there on your letter? Can't find the info on this vacancy, is it for 12 or 18 month temporary contract?
Hey Jessbob, congrats....I know you've been waiting ages and at least it's paid off!!! I think most of these roles were 18 months temporary, but I'm sure you'll get a chance to sort it all out on your 1st day :rotfl:0 -

Thanks, Jim;)
Its for the AO position, but really wanted the EO - but beggars can't be choosers:rotfl: will keep trying for the EO and still looking for other vacancies as well - mortgage needs to be paid somehow and doesn't look like I'm gonna be able to find work in my usual line for a while yet:(0 -
The IRC for the one I was successful for is 60535 (AO). No mention of a waiting list, gotta wait for CRB checks though.
I did the interview for South Yorkshire so does anyone know if that means I can only ask for a position in South Yorkshire because I actually live in West Yorkshire. Hope not as that will be one hell of a commute every day.
Many thanks and good luck.0
