    Hi

I recently had an interview for AO position...

    Questions included:

Tell me about yourself? (i.e. what you been doing in the past year or so and your skills you can offer i.e. customer service, it, admin, communication, team working)

    Tell me a time....When you worked in a group/team?

Tell me about a time ...you managed a resource? such as time

Tell me about a time ...when you improved performance and reviewed something? e.g. a piece of work

The four questions you will be asked are on the 4 competencies sheet you got so just think of examples from your life and past experiences!

    Honeslty, Dont worry...you'll be fine!

DONT FORGET TO TAKE PASSPORT/DRIVING LICENSE/NATIONAL ID CARD AND YOUR 3 FORMS YOU RECEIVED IN THE POST!

    Good luck!

I cannot remember the exact wording but here goes :-

Tell me about a time when you have cut costs /saved money....

Tell me about a time when you have had to motivate someone....

Tell me aboout a time when you have had to deal with change....

    I can't remember the fourth.
But for each one I explained what I did, how I did it, input from others, outcome and how I felt.

Try to relate the competencies you have been given towards the EO position you will be doing.

Where abouts in the DWP will you be working when/if you get the job?

    Best of luck.

    thank you for your help

so is cut cost/saved money for the competency making best use of resources?

to motivate someone? what competency improving performance?

and dealing with change what competency would that be?

    Thanks again

Ekul 84 it may be helpful if you post the competencies that were sent to you.

    Hi all,

I have an interview coming up and like some here, am a bit worried about the competency thing.

When I looked at each one I was feeling pretty daunted.

At first I thought I had to go through every bullet point and come up with an individual example for each one. This seemed excessive as I have to find examples for 4 competencies and each one contains up to 10 bullet points.

Would I be right in assuming that I only need to come up with 4 examples for the 4 competencies and try to include as many of the bullet points in the one example?

I hope so as otherwise I'll never be ready before interview day. ;)

My interview was back in September so can't recall all of them. But the Engaging effectively with internal and external customers and making best use of resources were 2 of them.

For all the competencies I looked at the bullet points and jotted down notes of things I thought I had done in previous jobs. The questions asked in the interview didn't relate specifically to each competency. I just selected an appropriate answer using one of the ones I'd looked at using the competencies. I made sure that I used at least 1 competency for each question.
If you don't have an imediate answer tell them that you can't recall a time at the moment and could you go back to it. I did this and my interviewer said have you ever done this.... and gave an example. The interviewers are fully aware that interviewees are on the spot and cannot remember everything.

They asked me to tell them about myself while they got the paper work sorted and to put myself at ease.
They only asked the 4 questions as such, but did asked probing questions about my answers if they felt I hadn't given enough info or they didn't understand.
At the end they asked if I had any questions and that was about it really.
