Don't worry, I'll heat it properly! By the way, I use the recipe from the OS recipe index - does anybody else use this recipe and is it just me that finds the quantities don't work out? For the amount of sauce that 1pt milk/2oz butter/2oz flour/2oz cheese makes, I generally find I need more fish and WAY more potato than the recipe suggests.

Perhaps it's just that the recipe quantities are designed for a deeper dish than I use, cos in my shallow dish the fish layer and potato layer are almost equal in depth. I can see how a thin layer of potato on top of a thick layer of fish might work in a small, round but quite deep dish.

Turns out my boss is planning to be in by lunchtime :(

Better do lots of work then I suppose...

    Morning all
Sorry to hear about so many sleepless nights.
It's another yucky looking day here, but not terribly cold I think.
HM pizza for dinner tonight - to finish up the last of the fancy cheeses!
I really need to get round to organising a menu planner for this month as we are so short of money. Am I the only one who has times when I am SO organised for a couple of months, then it all slips and goes totally haywire? It's so annoying, cos I know what I should be doing, but somehow don't.
At least the housework is fairly well up to date, and most of the ironing is done (just a few tablecloths - my least favourite ironing task)
  • Hi everyone

Awww so many of us not sleeping at the moment, me included, got health worries on my mind, so I least I know whats the cause of it! Busy day for me, going to hoover everywhere, catch up on some washing and ironing, get the uniforms ready for the girls, they are back at school tomorrow. (will miss them) Going to do some craft stuff with the girls this afternoon, have some paints and a plain white mug each, which we are going to decorate!

    Brekkie - Cereal
Lunch - Cheese & onion toasties
Dinner - Tuna & salad for me, pasta & tuna for the girls and OH is at work

Have a great day everyone xx

    Morning everyone!

My DD is feeling much better, well enough to put on her Minnie Mouse Hat (complete with huge ears), that she wears all the time but hasn't during the last couple of days as she was feeling so poorly.

I am pretty impressed with Parcel force and the Royal Mail as I just received a letter with my name at the top and my road name with no house number. It was from parcel force to say that they were holding a parcel for me but unable to deliver it as they didn't know where I lived and were hoping that the postie would know which bless him he did , I called parcelforce and I have a surprise parcel turning up tomorrow! I also received some nice tesco vouchers in the post with plenty of points for me to save. There was a code for 500 points on a £50 online shop - XXTL7V.

Ds is back to school tomorrow so I need to get all of his bits ready. Dinner will be chicken with pasta and a hm tomato sauce with salad.

I hope everyone has a nice day.

    hello!

    New year greetings to everyone!

Today is the official start of being thrifty, money saving & all that!

Have been thru my bank accounts & sorted everything out.

Had 2 diarys for christmas. So am using 1 to put all my incomings & outgoings in. Can see where I am for the next 2 months atm.

Am about to go through freezer & pantry & make a list of what we've got. Then will do menu planner based on that & a menu plan to go shopping with!

Menu planning saves everyone money but will def save me money as we often have 3/4 diff meals at dinner time in my house  I know, I know but dh gets home late, I am veggie, dd is a good eater & ds is the worlds fussiest eater. Actually I will sort all of that out. We must eat similar stuff, thats ridiculous actually nw I've written it down!

    Morning all :D

Neither DH nor I slept much last night but we made the most of us both being awake at 5am so that was a bonus ;) Unfortunately we then fell asleep and overslept so DD2 got to school just as the whistle blew, I made it by the skin of my teeth with her eating a chocolate spread sandwich as we ran.

I've put everything on hold as DD1 is moving out on Sunday so it's no point worrying about how tidy the house is when we will all be moving bedrooms next week and there will be more room to put everything.

I do have a ton of washing still to do and tea to sort out though.

    Morning all,

Not feeling too good this am - was up until 1am last night finishing some course work which needs to be posted and be in London by tomorrow - and so have just been to PO - and spent £3.38 on a special delivery - not very thrifty - should be better organized! Will be next time (honest!)
Little inkies are off until Monday, and as we have not surfaced until 10am all of the holidays, will have to start and wean ourselves back into getting up at a reasonable hour in preparation for next week.

Hope the day will be as kind as it can be to you all

    Good Morning everyone ,
well my new printer came yesterday but I havn't got around to fixing it on yet. The weather is very mild but murky today, I am sitting here typing away when I should be doing some cleaning ,but hey it's only me that sees it so 'whatever' as my grandaughter of 12 says. She had a bit of bad luck yesterday she was larking around with the dog who is a real softie, and bashed her mouth on his head. Dog is fine, but she broke her front tooth. So she was taken off to the dentists for swift repairs. Hope everyone is fighting fit and back in the swing of things again. I don't go back to college until next week so I'm just slobbing around doing nowt at the moment.
Well enough of this idleness, I'm off to clean my kitchen
    cheers everyone

    Hello everyone

    Caterina

I know how you feel - I used to jump through hoops trying to please people and whatever I did was wrong. Now I just smile and agree - try this with your Mum - "You are lucky getting such nice cheese at home etc. "Oh do you think so ?" etc etc.

If nothing else it will not give her the feedback she is seeking.

Why is it the ones we love that cause us such grief? Probably because we care! That is what makes you such a nice person and a great parent.

Big hug and try to stop grinding your teeth or you will get a dreadful headache.

Oh well - missed the bin men - I shall blame DH - his job is rubbish! (the putting out of - not the quality of his job)

Just finished DD1's room - she's a real hoarder - she ferrets bits away everywhere...in true girlie style there were 4 handbags, all complete with lip gloss, notebook, pen, tissues, chewing gum, small toy, keyring, and various packs of cards, christmas cracker hats (????) empty packets etc.... I've managed to get 2 sacks of rubbish from her room - 1 is all cardboard and paper based and will be recycled, the other is just broken bits of toys and tatt....She can now get to her desk, sit on her sofa and see the tv through the dust! How long will that last.

Will do DD2's room tomorrow - got no enthusiasm left today - will go watch a dvd and do some ironing instead, then its' chuck the stuff in the SC time for beef stew. Got a pot of cream that needs using today too - not really sure what to do with it - might defrost some turkey and make a soup for tomorrow.

Moggins - I bet you'll miss your DD terribly but think of the extra space and how nice it will be when she comes back to visit, you'll probably see more of her - I know when I first moved out of home I was back every other day and it was quaility time with my parents as they took the time to sit and have coffee with me rather than expect me to be in my room.

Sorry to hear so many of you aren't sleeping well - a simple thing that works for me is a lavender bag tied to the bed frame just above my pillow - i give it a squeeze before laying down and it releases some fragrence - very soothing and restfull.
