I am getting a bit confused here..is this making payments or actual capital?? Just wanted to clarify..sorry if it is my muddled brain.

Mine is actual capital ie I am reducing the amount outstanding, and not including interest payments in my calculations at all.

Well done magni on clearing a card - hope it is nicely cut up and closed now!

  • Hi everyone,

Could I join the challenge please?

I've not been on the site for a while until very recently where I've been milling around a bit. I'm not very good at sticking to things but am fed up of the huge debt me and my OH have. I want to tackle the debt head on and joining a challenge is a great way to do it.

As I haven't really posted before, the history of the debt is it was mainly racked up by OH before we got together and while I didn't have control over his finances. We've eventually got to a point where everyday expenditure is now not done via credit cards (was in the spiral before with not enough income) although I have had to use my card over the past couple of months for some big emergency items. This is being paid off first!

There is a lot and we do struggle with motivation, willpower etc but I am now trying yet again and slowly I have been changing our spending habits over the past few years!

I'm going to do it on a payment basis less spending (of which I intend there to be none except in extreme circumstances) but not including interest as this is harder for me to monitor.

I think I will go with a target of £15,000 to start off with. This is more than the monthly payments we have to make so to make sure a bit extra gets paid off each month will be the challenge. I'll up the target later down the line if I'm getting close!

So could you add me to the list please.

Oh and I made my first payment of £304.13 today!

  • I overpaid my loan by £600 today :T

First loan overpayment since I realised that saving the minimum to meet the balance towards my 0% card and chucking the rest at my loan was going to save me a lot more than saving like crazy for my card and then throwing money at my loan after  :wall:

  • Well we ended up paying the £100 from my pad off hs credit card, simply cos I need to go to the bank to pay it off my loan and I forgot whereas he could do the payment over the phone, don't suppose it matters as long as it's coming off a debt! Am very pleased that's us nearly paid off the first £1000
