Hi everyone.
Sorry I haven't posted for a while - this whole debt thing has been getting me down. I just feel as if I'm waiting for it to be over so my life can start (and I am already officially middle aged ). I feel a mid life crisis coming on - I should have enough money for plastic surgery, a sports car and a toy boy by now!
Anyway, back to reality .
Two of my debts have been sold on to a DCA who wanted a SOA before they would accept monthly payments - I can't describe how much I resent having to account for every penny, probably to someone half my age, but it's my fault, so I keep gritting my teeth and doing it.
I asked the woman at the original creditor why they had been sold on when I was making monthly payments, had just undergone a review and had increased the payments, and she said it was nothing to do with my record or anything, 'they' had just decided to sell on a big parcel of debts and I was one of them.
To some extent (and I know some people won't agree) this has changed the way I think about my debt. I've had some moral dilemmas over full and final settlements - I felt that I'd borrowed it, knowing (although not having a full understanding of the consequences of) the interest rate and therefore I should pay it all back. But now it seems to me that it's just business to them, so it should be just business to me. I need to have a life and I'm running out of time!
Following on from this, another DCA have written to me offering me a full and final settlement of 75% to be paid over 3 months. About 6 months ago, they rang me and offered me 75% for a F & F, but I didn't have the money. I've spent ages playing around with my budget sheets, but I don't honestly see how I can manage the new offer, even with the 3 month bit. However, the letter did say that they would contact me with any further offers if I couldn't take them up on this one, so I am completely re-motivated to make sure that I am in a position to take them up on any further offers.
OMG, look how much I've been talking. I really only came on here to update my 6 monthly figure and to say well done to everyone so far. I probably need to start a diary or something to get this stuff out of my system without boring all you guys to death.
Anyway, my total to the end of 6 months is £5564. It's behind schedule, but I'm actually really pleased because it's nearly as much as I managed to pay off in the whole of last year.
I just want to say to anyone who's struggling at the moment that it does get easier. I promise to post a bit more often, so that you don't have to listen to so much drivel in one go, and if you've gone AWOL from this challenge (something I'm a bit of an expert in), please come back and let us know how you're getting on.
Thanks to you all for listening and well done everyone.

Polly, I am sorry I didn't see this yesterday to reply......I hope you feel a bit more positive today.
For what its worth, although I am not on a DMP so have committed to paying my full debt plus interest, I can fully understand what you are saying about the F&F, and it being a business transaction to them now.....what I would suggest is that you join in the June "make £10 a day challenge" - give yourself a bit of motivation and encouragement, and start saving up a "pot" of money ready for the next F&F offer.....
I don't know what your figures are, for each debt, obviously, but if you start a F&F pot, aiming for 75% of one debt, then it might act as a motivator for you to get a bit extra money in?
Just remember - the total paid off so far this year is not far short of the amount you paid off in the WHOLE of last year.....that is pretty amazing and something that you should be very proud of!
As for the toyboy.....well, I can't help there, but perhaps you could put out a plea on the "single and in debt" thread......:DSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. £90 paid to the debt pot today.......
Which takes my half year total to
£13,308.90
I have started updating the spreadsheet for half year totals.....if anyone wants to "declare" their results so far, please do so in big numbers in the main body of a post (ie not just in your signatures please) and I will add them to the spreadsheet over the course of the weekend, and we can see just how bloody marvellously we have been doing!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground.
