  • Hi Jim,

Having been a member of MSE for a long time I can't believe that today is the first time I've found your thread. Having done so, I've gone through it from the start.

Just wanted to say that I've seen your positive and constructive contribution to countless other threads and now that I've read your own story, wanted to wish you continued good luck with everything.

Like myself and everyone else on here I guess you have good days and bad, but overall you seem to be finding a way through things, so good luck with everything and from now on I'll keep an eye on your thread.

Thanks Dolphin. Having a bad day today, car broke down and awaiting call from garage with the "good" news. Although on a more positive note have just cleared a £555 debt this morning.

    WONDERFUL TRUE STORY
Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?' The girl said,
'NO!' And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and went
fishing and hunting and played golf a lot and drank beer and scotch and had
tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he
    wanted.
    The end

Jim have you tried sticking some posters up on one of the campuses? Might be worth it if you want it sorted quick.

I've thought about that for the faculty staff, I live next to two schools. I have an advert in the local paper on Friday, so far I have just had online ads but this weekend I hope a physical ad will do the job.

    Hello Jim,
Like MS Dolphin - another virtual acquaintance I didn't know till reading worried sick's thread a few minutes ago, I am surprised not to have crossed paths with you thus far.
So, at another remove, thankyou again MS Dolphin - your post led me here - and Jim, your light's Green for Go, so:jSalut!
I hope kettle's on and I have just joined the Jim Club[no excoriating fees]invited or no.

I'll read all later, but fantastic feeling on the Big Goodbye High 5's this morning. Well done!
As for car, blutty things...mine ditto, though very forgiving generally[I do abuse it].
k2tog speaks fine words, on which note I'll close for now, wishing you many proselytising Mormons ce soir.

Strength and endurance, Jim - we share it around.

Have to p.s. parce que je suis RAVIE de trouver un autre francophile ici....et, point de vue 'cin!aste'. PERSONNE n'a r!ussi, JAMAIS, comme Claude Berri avec La Gloire de Mon Père, suivi du Château de Ma Mère[the end of which is so sudden, corruscating. As the music opens the former, as we swirl around Garlaban....oh that music, that music...it finishes me and I am there, always.
    V. near my old stamping ground[one of]and I have the memory, so much fool to myself, of needing to 'phone someone from Aubagne's Auchan, tears pouring down face, because I am there, I am there, at so long last I am there and can see it through the cabine window.
Best hie me off in embarrassment now...pillaged thread, rambled, vulnerabled self 'cos your words touched the heartspring, lit the blue touch paper...blahblahblah.

    C'est BIEN suffit!

Well I've never heard of La Gloire De Mon Pere but on your well worded recommendation I have now ordered it, I believe Le Chateau De Ma Mere is a squeal and these two films are France's biggest grossing domestic movies ever. I feel you have the advantage of being a fluent French speaker where I have to listen closely to catch words and phrases that I may recognise. The way French is taught (or was) in British schools is appalling, I so much wanted to able to speak French but had to endure 6 years of French teacher talking absolute gibberish with out explaining what they were trying to say, as a consequence it has taken me 6 years of French lessons to book a hotel room with en-suite.
When ever I meet someone French I am embarrassed at my lack of ability to converse with beyond ca va?
Hanging my head in shame at not been able to speak French.

Have 24 season 7, Terminator salvation and Star Trek to watch this week so the culture will have to wait till I've blown !!!!!! up, fought robot killers and flown a starship. Calm down ladies, wait your turn the television is on.

Jim - pausing through a long ebay wrapping night[if playing with sellotape and Mr T placky bags rings your particular bells] while knowing to be grateful for the necessity.

Hmm, me not sci-fi, nor techie enough to include straight off something I'll add in after i.e. accents shortcuts.

I think you'll like the feeling of having them under your fingertips and so pathetic am I, that making them appear thus, at will, helps me through the time I am not being there...until I am, which I do on smell of t'oily rag[that your garagiste has used on your car today?]

I used to know them by heart without thinking[ditto all the Departmental no's, so knowing where vehicles were domiciled - anal, put like that, but not really].

I also have two papers online daily and there's much to play with.

It's in loft- so it can join the zillion objêts which are making their way into the eBayether.
I will love to hear your feelings about the 2 films - you'll get round to Raymond Castans' books about MP, too. I have cabinets full of French videos, bought at auction for £1 for 2 large cartons, in one of East Angular's more xenophobic corners.

Right, need to Carry On Wrapping[after dropping those linkies in]...how suitable those 3 Majuscules:D

p.s. your '!!!!!!' I read, but heard in late blvd R's voice - a fave expression of his.

  • Hi Jim et al

I have lurked but must now jump in, headfirst! I really enjoy this thread and read out the jokes to OH so we have a chucle also am so interested in the vegetable oil for diesel. Mostly because we have a beloved Bongo van which we take, wait for it ampersand...to France and it is costly but lovely. It has a diesel engine 2.5lt TD apparently whilst japanese it has ford engine. Would this be suitable to use old oil in d'ya think?

I was put off French/France by school experiences and perhaps by the frenchmen who exposed themselves to me and my two friends when we backpacked round europe aged 18. Put us right off. For some bizarre reason(s) I now LOVE the place. We have even bought a boat which is sitting over there waiting for us. So I spend some time listening to Serge Lama lamenting 'Je suis malade, completement malade...' wanting to be there. Oh well, come the spring...

Thanks Jim for cheering me up with your funny tales...
