Oh poop. That's a real shame. It sounded like a good plan. Perhaps they'll call back with a new settlement figure that's even lower - it's like price-drop tv :D

Oh, I do hope so :D

The pension thing depends on your age and what type of pension you have.

There may still be a way of getting at the funds by transferring to a different plan (depending on your age still), but.....I really wouldn't recommend it. This is the money you will need in retirement and if you take it now, you will have nothing!

That said, it's your choice. Search for pension release companies. I don't think I'm allowed to say specific names.

I would much rather leave the pension alone, it was just the thought of clearing £18k of debt for only £5k. I know that the debt is about to be sold on to a dca and I am sure that they will be happy with the £50 odd they will get each month from payplan. I am not bothered about them buying the debt and calling me up demanding full payment or larger monthly's as I know it is all hot air and after I've explained the situation and sent off my payplan prepared soa they will quickly crawl back under their rock and collect the monthly payment as I've been doing all year. Maybe after a while they will contact me with an even lower settlement figure and I may be in a position to pay. I do have mixed emotions about this process, on one hand its fantastic that potentially I could end up paying back much less than I owe and on the other how would I feel if someone owed me £18k and at best all I got back was £5k.
Although I am sure that all creditors would act in the same way so at some point in the future it is very likley that I will be paying back in total less than £10k on an original debt of £26k. Now all I need is £10k, does anyone want to buy my signed Roger Waters record? Should be worth about £11k but I'll let you have for just £10k. I also have a slither of wood form the one true cross- yours for £10k. How about my virginity, I could ebay that for £10k, some lucky lady will be getting a right bargain for that and I'll even throw in a foot massage !

Thank you, I tone most of the humour down, which is why the "confessions" are coming when I have enough courage, I think I'll wait until there have been 50,000 views (presently 46678) which probably means I have until the end of the week to think who I am going to apologise to first (I already know and am suitably burdened with guilt trying to remember her name ).

Just had a cheque for £108 from First Direct hit the door mat ! Big thanks to Ras who first told me about claiming for charges. I am going to celebrate by getting my glasses repaired as a lens had popped out some time ago and it means at night when I have removed my contacts I'll be able to watch tv in bed cos you can't beat Sky news before bed time.

I recently saw the film "Bronson" films ok ish with a few good moments, but there was one song on the soundtrack that I have never heard before which really grabbed me -Glass Candy by Digital Versicolor, it has this filthy bassline and needs to be listened to in the dark wearing very little clothing, I've never heard of them before but I have just invested 79p thru itunes. Thanks First Direct!

  • Hi Jim!

I feel like I should ask if I can call you that as you're some what of a celebrity status now - having read your thread from start to finish!!! What a change in you since last November! i actually started reading it yesterday and as it is compulsive reading I managed to get it finished while at work today - is that sad !!! Lol. anyway - I just wanted to let you know that you've inspired me to take control and work out my own finances which I have spent this morning and this afty doing. It's a hell of a shock to see things there in black and white but now I know the score and when I will be debt free - Nov 2012! Sounds like a lifetime away but who knows, it may even be sooner.

So - have you had any bids on your ebay item yet then :-D

I am curious to know how you're doing with your food shopping, where you go these days, still Aldi and Tesco? And how much you've reduced it by etc?

I'm looking to cut mine from £325 or there abouts to £200 as I spend willy nilly - correction - spent! Started with a budget today and going to keep a spending diary then in 1 months time take a look again. I am soooo excited!!!!! :-)

Take Care Jim and Thank you - without your post I really wouldn't have bothered!

with the food shopping I get salad/veg from Aldi. salad bags 99p compared with £1.50 @ Tesco. I am getting a lot of lettuce/toms from a friends garden gratis at the moment. I use Tesco for cleaning products cos Aldi are !!!!!! esp there deodorant (which is not a claening product but you get the jist). I have just been to the co op for 4 bottles of Sol and some Crunchie ice cream- I am still on holiday until Monday ! I have boght some meat from Aldi but it isn't as good as Tesco imo. When in Tesco I tend to ignore there "offers" as they a rip off, if steak is half price this week how come my shopping bill is exactly the same as the week b4 when I bought some. Tesco's must think I am stupid. Hey this beer is kicking in ! I'll be ranting and moaning all night now. Gits.

If I had it, I'd pay 10k for the foot massage - definitely the way to my :D
Glad to see you are sounding more perky Jim and lovely to see so many newbies getting positive stuff from your confessional - perhaps you should rename your diary?
I've read your thread Jim; I don't believe you are watching Sky news before bed ;)
