We have quite a long breadmaking thread which includes comments and advice on breadmakers, so I'm going to merge your question with that thread. Beacause the posts will be listed in date order - all the things you want to know will be above your post. :)

oh sorry :o must check the stickys before i post questions.

    No, that's OK, honest :)

There's such a lot of stuff in the various stickies that it's hard to keep track of them all. I find it hard too - and I wrote most of them :)

I am thinking about buying a breadmaker so i'd like so recommendations about which is the best to get. I want to use it every other day to make a loaf and i wouldn't mind it to make dough for pizza bases, brioche/croissant bread and jam (if poss). I'm not so bothered about the cost of the breadmaker, I'm more bothered about it producing decent reliable loaves that taste great, preferably one that wil produce decent loaves when using cheap normal flour rather than buying the more expensive strong bread flour.

Can anyone give me an idea of which breadmakers they find reliable or ones i should avoid like the plague?

    Thanks

i've now read the whole thread (phew! how long?) and i am still none the wiser about which to buy, Morphy richards? panasonic? these two seem to be most popular. I want to make white and brown loaves, pizza bases etc etc. Just really want a reliable breadmaker that'll make decent loaves. Which particular MR/Panasonic machines has people got?

I'm also thinking of getting a breadmaker, have just about decided on a Panasonic SD253 (£80)... that is unless someone read this and write ''oh god don't buy THAT one"

If anyone has this (Curry_Queen?) can you tell me if if makes loaf shaped bread rather than the tall type that a lot of breadmakers make?

Zziggi, we have the Panasonic SD253 and absolutely love it. Yes it does make bread shaped loaves (we always do the Large setting - middle option in the sizes). OH was totally sceptical and only went along with buying it 'cause I'd researched it on MSE!

Anyway, I can't get my hands on it. It's the domain of OH, who makes a super 5 seed loaf (50/50 wholemeal / white). We have never had a failure and the bread is to die for. We have never bought a shop bought loaf since and OH complains like mad if we are caught out and have to buy sandwiches out. I have made Queenie's rosemary and onion bread in the machine (twice - and have to wait unti OH is out and undergo questioning when he returns!) and it is absolutely delicious.
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D

My father-in-law has given me a Morphy Richards, Model 48260, serial number 10011834 but it has no instructions. There are cups inside, has anyone got one and could let me know how to use it? Thank you.

I haven't seen any reference to Russell Hobbs Ultimate. It seems quite expensive so I suppose it will do the job ok? I'm thinking of buying one if I don't get a Panasonic. [I went off them when our new home phones went up the creek after one week! I vowed never to but Panasonic again!!!!!!!!]
